So I bought one 2412m for me and another for my dad and am I missing something....I dont see any registration for warranties and they didn't come with a receipt because they just mailed the monitor box. I dont want to get screwed out of a 3 year warranty.

What is a service tag #? Do you mean serial code? S/N

It is a 5-7 digit alphanumeric code, which is found on a white bar-coded label affixed to your Dell unit.

i see a 6 letter/number code with no name or description next to it plus a bar-code above it....

EDIT: looked all over it and the only bar-code/sticker is the S/N and another bar-code below it that is not labeled anything and has 6 figures

Also what does it mean it is a U2412Mb...is that a revision? If so is it better then the first one or worse?

I'm pretty sure the 3 year warranty only applies if you by it from Dell directly.

If you bought it from 1saleaday you probably only have 30 days.

Edit: After looking around the web you might try using the last 7 digits of the serial number.

That is BS if you buy it from 1saleaday retail brand new and has no warranty...its like buying it from newegg and getting no warranty. What kind of crap is dell pulling.

EDIT: according to this that you posted it does have a 3 year warranty but its from manufacture date, which isn't so bad I got it a few months after it was manufactured but whatever.

Dell offers various different warranties, all part and parcel of the package you buy from them. They vary from 90 days to 5 years, run the gamut of "return to depot" to 4 hour on site service - and may even include accidental damage and theft. Those warranties can add four digits to the price of a system.

When you buy from a third party like "1saleaday", you enter into a contract with them. I am sure they described the warranty terms as well. In any case, no service tag on your machine is a dead ringer for "NO WARRANTY FROM DELL". If it is just the sticker missing, you can look up your service tag in BIOS.

First off he bought a monitor and only the 30" come with service tags from Dell. I verified this myself since I just received the u2412m myself and was shocked by it. I thought everything from Dell came with a service tag, but they don't.

Also 1saleaday said its a 3 year warranty...i have never heard of any monitor being new from dell and not have a 3 year warranty. At least all I have seen. I have bought one directly from dell and its supposed to have a 3 year warranty but i haven't looked at that one yet because i gave it to my dad and I dont know when I'll get home to check

I would call Dell and say that you have a problem with the monitor, if they asked where you bought and you 1saleaday and they say you must go thru them than at least you tried.

I see no reason why Dell won't support you though, if you have the reciept to show you bought it that will help even more.

You mean the 24" monitor right? Dell doesn't have service tags for those. Keep a copy of your order/invoice number for future warranty service. Been there, done that. They're able to service the monitors so long as you can provide proof of purchase without a serial number or service tag on a monitor that was purchased separately from a computer.

I was always of the opinion that Dell needed to change that...

I'm not sure. Last time I used an eBay invoice for it that was not sufficient -- I had to provide them with the original Dell invoice for service. Needless to say when the seller did not provide that, and the monitor was in such poor condition to start with, PayPal forced him to give me a refund. That was back in 2005 so Dell's policies might have changed; I highly doubt it though.

Well, you could try calling them and requesting an RMA -- and simply not go through with it. Or tell them something stupid like the monitor won't turn on, get to the point where the guy offers an RMA (or says it isn't possible), and then tell him nevermind since you just discovered you forgot to plug the monitor in. Point is you can test this now and see if you can get service -- poor guy has to waste his time but that's Dell's fault for not having a good system for warranty support on monitors.
