    Please Vote,

Who here depends better 64bit driver support from Dell?

Dell sells notebook with 4gb of ram, but don't give people a choice to come with 64bit windows pre-installed. Plus 64bit drivers if released for some models are sometimes several versions behind.

To receive WHQL certification for Vista drivers, companies are required by Microsoft to produce both 32bit and 64bit driver. But in few examples Dell decides not to release 64bit driver.

I don't need 64-bit support "from dell".... but I still vote for 64-bit, as it's the way of the future (with >3GB RAM support among others) ! :D

In few cases we do need dell; one example is Alps, which have to be one of the laziest companies when it comes to tech support, on their site I couldn't even find a trance of info about touchpads.

Latest Alps 32bit driver was released by Dell In January 2008; latest 64bit driver was released by Dell on April 2007. There should never been such a long delay.

Dates: are estimate, not in the mood to look up the dates.

Dell does not make the drivers for its components, you'd have to take the issue up with the component manufacturers for drivers...

Of course they don't, but they are the direct customer to the component manufacturers.

Have you tried contacting some component manufacturers and asking them about drivers? There main response is "sorry we don't provide third party support, please contact your computer company"

That the response you get with Alps, Atheros, Broadcom (for some drivers), nvidia (some drivers), ati/amd (mostly for mobile video drivers) etc...

Bottom line is that Dell, and other computer manufactures need to push these lazy companies, and delivery what their customers need.

laptopvideo2go.com had a 174.31 series nVidia driver that is WHQL native for my Delll M133O running Vista x64.

I already provided a link in another thread to K-Byte's full package for the fingerprint reader - the only missing capability is password replacement in FireFox; IE's works and the rest of the package is functionally identical to x86.

Personally, my biggest annoyance with x64 is lack of Java and flash in x64 native applications (I have to use x86 versions of firefox and IE to get those features).

I know you can get drivers for other locations, point of this thread is that should be done by Dell. Currently running 174.51 on my 1530.
