Well I finally received my E1705, and this thing is great. However, the desktop icons seem too big. I thought that the text and everything else was supposed to be hard to see on a WUXGA screen. That doesn't seem to be the case here. I went in to display properties and setting and the resolution is 1920X1200. How can I get the desktop icons to become smaller? Thanks.

Try using the Dell Quickset utility in your system tray, just click it and there should be an option there to set the size of your icons.

right click on desktop -> Properties -> Appearance. Check font size there. If it's normal, click on advanced. Scroll down to "Icon" and reduce size there.

yeah you could do that, but it's probably the dpi. Easiest way i can think of to change it is right click desktop> properties> settings> advanced. Under the general tab there should be a dpi settings drop box and you can go to custom and just dragyour mouse around the ruler to get the size you want and apply it. Disregard the "insert xp cd" prompt and just do it off what's in the system or whatever.

dell has the DPI set to 120 which makes everything look a bit pixelly/grainy as well as your Icons are huge.

To change the DPI --> do as kidA said, but under advanced, you'll see a general tab. You just click on the DPI and change it from 120 back to 96 which is the normal setting. I wouldn't do a custom setting unless you don't like it being at 96, but for most users, 96 does the trick.

ah, thanks for this. for some reason, it just seemed like the icons werent in proportion to the rest of the screen. i set mine to normal and it was good to go. thing is...how will i get this same effect when i reinstall windows? or is the quickset part of the drivers?

Quickset is not a driver but an application to control various settings in windows xp, it will be on your resource cd or just download it from dells website.
