What do I do when my XPS M1330 tells me that my built in device isn't found? I've tried disabling and re-enabling it, but nothing.

What device is it? Can you find it in Device Manager and install the driver?

It's my webcam and microphone. Both are built in. I can find them in the device manager. My laptop is brand new. I got it maybe a month or so ago. It came with a drivers cd. I installed all the drivers for both devices and I looked for new ones on the dell website and from the device manager window.

Did you try installing them? What are the properties under Device Manager? Are they shown as yellow question marks?

Yes, I've installed all the drivers I could find. In the Device Manager you can ask it to search the internet for newer drivers. When I did that it said that I had the latest drivers.

When I look at the properties of the webcam in the Device Manager it tells me that everything is working properly.

What happens when you use a recording program like Audacity? Can you see the microphone and/or record with it? What do you have under Sound in the Control Panel? Does a webcam program like the Dell Webcam Center or Yawcam see your camera?

Dell webcam center works. I can use it to record videos. It sees both the microphone and webcam, but when I use messenger services it says that it can't find either of them.

Under sound in the Devices Manager, it sees the built in microphone. Same for the video input.

Try downloading/installing/trying Yawcam and Audacity. See if they work.

I've tried Audacity, and that doesn't work. Since my webcam works in the Dell Webcam Manager I didn't bother with the webcam software, Yawcam.

I seem to be having a similar problem. I formatted the laptop today, and installed everything, yet my webcam doesnt want to work 9only shows up as a black screen) The latest drivers have been installed (using the update driver option).

The webcam did work before the format. btw i have the 1530

The latter could be because you still have to reinstall the original disk provided for Webcam. Many believe you dont because the updates are so large but the initial disk that has the webcam HAS to be reinstalled.
