Whenever I hibernate my laptop and start it back up, the display settings always change and it makes everything look "fuzzy". It isn't a huge deal because I just change the resolution back to what it should be and it only takes a second.

But, I was wondering if anyone else notices this on their xps m1330. If so, is there a way to change it so it doesn't happen?

Again, not a a huge deal. It is just a tad annoying sometimes, especially because it doesn't happen with my other laptop.

    Thanks! :)

You mean the resolution will change every time you hibernate and go back up.

No, that is not normal. That would be annoying.

I would contact Dell support via chat and see if there is a fix unless someone else have already a fix.

Yup. I will hibernate the system, and when I start it back up I need to re-set the display settings. the weird thing is that it only happens with hibernation. When I restart or turn the system off completely, it always starts back up just fine.

    Strange, huh?

This may sound stupid, but is stand-by the same thing as "sleep"? My laptop has two options, sleep and hibernate.

Actually, you post got me thinking that what I have been doing may not even be hibernation. I just checked my power settings, and what I have been doing is putting it to "sleep." Whenever I close the monitor without shutting down first, it goes to "sleep."

But, the same thing happens with hibernate, which occurs when I hit the power button without shutting down first.

So, whether I do sleep or hibernate doesn't seem to matter - they both mess up my display settings when I power back up.

Sleep keeps power to memory, Hibernate writes the memory to disk and powers off even the memory... so Hibernate needs no power but takes a bit longer to restart. I think Vista is improved with some kind of combined system and the ability to automatically switch to Hibernate if you left in sleep and the batteries ran low.

I think I remember the resolution change and it was fixed by setting the proper resolution - either in the NVIDIA graphics controls or Dell Quickset settings. I guess there are two places it can be set and one is probably set wrong and the one you are changing is not the one that is read coming out of hibernation.

Thanks, Nalada! I changed the quickset settings. So, I will try the NVIDIA graphics control settings. I just need to figure out how to do that now :) Any quick instructions on how to do this?
