Threads are popping up about the poor quality of the screens on the Dell Latitude D830 and D630. I am thinking about buying a Dell Latitude D630, but if Dell has not fixed this problem, I will buy something else. Does the Dell Latitude D830 and D630 have the same flaws from the Dell Latitude D820 and D620?

Lemme guess...they tried to use a 6bit dithering panel didn't they...
-
So, did Dell say the screens are supposed to be different from the prior generation?

So, there was no announcement from Dell that the LCD screens on the new generation laptops are different from the last generation?

I don't know how Dell can fix these sceens, if they use the same Samsung screens like in the previous generation...then...
Lenovo also used one of these screens on the T60w and the Lenovo section was full of complaints...
Have you checked out the forum on their site? -

Now I don't have enough experience with different widescreen 14" laptops to be sure, but from all the widescreen 14" laptops I have seen or used, none of them had good screens. All had fairly narrow vertical viewing angles, and I haven't seen any that didn't have light leakage at the bottom. I suppose at some level the OEMs are responsible since they aren't forcing the screen panel manufacturers to put out better quality screens, but don't fool yourself into thinking that switching to HP or Lenovo will guarantee you won't get the same crappy panel.
Specifically regarding the screens in the D620 and D630, the early D620 screens seemed to have genuine issues with an aggressive anti-glare coating that caused 'sparkle/graininess', but screens were revised to change this. Now in terms of brightness and screen quality, there will definitely be variation even with the same notebook, the D620 had no less than 8 different panels from different screen manufacturers (according to the massive D620 screen complaint thread on the Dell Community Forum). -
I wanted to know too about this new D630 screen.
I been following the D620 thread at the Dell forum until they shut it down and said the problem has been fix.
I actually had to return my D620 last year after I try to get use to it for 45 days and hurt my eyes so bad. -
Wow, I don't understand what people are complaining about. My screen is just about perfect with good viewing angles, moderate light bleeding, no dead pixels, bright, crisp, clear images.
But then again, I've never owned a Latitude before.
edit - In fact, it's very bright. -
Good read.

I could only see banding on my E1705 if I set the Color Quality on my display to 16 bit. On 32 bit there's no banding on the 24-bit color test. -
The 24 bit test looked smooth as butter to me.

I seriously considered getting a D630; having previously had a D620. However, the screen on the D620 was so poor, I finally got rid of it.
Instead, I opted to buy a T61. I will admit to also having had a T43 with a 14.1 screen that was not very good. Perhaps as bad as the D620.
I received my T61 a little over a week ago and I have to admit that I as HUGELY surprised at the quality of the LCD. It's plenty bright, good viewing angles, and the resolution is excellent (1440 X 900).
I really liked my D620, just not the LCD. -

If I do not get a Dell Latitude D630, I am interested in the new Dell XPS M1330. Unfortunately, I doubt it will have a WXGA+ resolution screen.

I didn't know 13 people here owned the D630

Too many voters here have never seen a Dell Latitude D630 in person.
-
There is nothing wrong with the screen of my D630.
Moreover I could not locate any thread on Dell's community site complaining about this issue (related to D630). I know it's early days yet but still. -

LeeC81 and Sirius_GTO are the only two voters I know have seen the D630 in person. I think Odin 243 has seen it in person, but I am not sure.
-
I'm sure Ed Rooney voted as well. He has two D630's.

Doesn't Homer have one?

Why a poll? Why doesn't he just ask the people who actually have used the D630 and D830 laptops?
Also, from is spelled F-R-O-M. -
WackyT what are you referring to?
-
Hes being a wank in reference to a typo in the poll answers.
-
Oh, now I see it. lol

I am perfect.

Alright...back on topic guys...
Next time there's a typo argument, someone PM me and I'll fix it -
I've been threw 3 d620's(1 WXGA & 2 WXGA+). I plan to order a d630 soon but I have seen one in person(a WXGA+). All I really looked for was the viewing angle and sure enough, as always with pretty much any notebook, the viewing angles suck. This is why I buy Latitude in the first place. Because they have the docking station with DVI output so I can use a real LCD at my desk. If it wasn't for that I'd just go with Asus or Sager notebooks. Dell makes great desktop monitors and over the past few years I keep thinking maybe they will finally get a brain and give us some good LCD options in their notebooks. Never happens though. I'd gladly pay an extra $350 for a WXGA+ screen with 160/160 or better viewing angles. They should at least make it an option even if it is an expensive option.

The TN panels used in almost all laptops play a big part in the crappy viewing angles, especially vertically.
Did Dell fall flat on their face AGAIN!!??
