    http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/26/dells-new-studio-laptops-in-the-wild/

If you check the image gallery associated with this post, you'll notice a black laptop with a flush keyboard similar to the one found on the XPS M1330. Specifically, check out images 8, 12, 13 and 22. The article says it's the Studio 15 but that's inaccurate. The Studio 15 does not have a flush keyboard, and neither does the Studio 17.

I see no markings on the laptop that would indicate what series it belongs to, but I'm guessing it's a new 13.3" or 14" Studio laptop that Engadget mistook for the Studio 15. What do you guys think?

You're right electric tool! the picture of the studio 15 on the dell site clearly has edges around it's keyboard which that black dell laptop does not have. Great observation!

It was not inadvertent, Engadget states that:

Pics are below, and we apologize for the blurring: a few unannounced products snuck into the shots, but hopefully we'll be hearing more about those shortly.

I don't know... but a Studio 13 would be great.

I see what you mean, the black one has its keyboard extend all the way to the edge of the laptop (just like the XPS M1330 does), its probably a studio 13 they got ahold of somehow... Definately not the same size as the Studio 15, nice catch!

    Look at this picture.

See how much smaller & shorter the black one on the right is compared to the one on the left?

By the way, the keys themselves are different, too. The black laptop's keys have a beveled edge... the other laptop's keys are more chicklet-y, kind of like a Sony Vaio (sort of).

Yeah its definitely a different laptop with the all black palmrest and the small size. The headphone jacks are also on the front, where as it is on the sides for the Studio 15 and 17.

Oh man, I didn't even pay attention to the picture of the Studio 15 with the mystery laptop! I certainly hope that's not the direction that the XPS line is taking - the M1330 looks better than this and limits the gloss to the display.

http://www.engadget.com/photos/dell-studio-laptop-hands-on/885514/ notice where the power on is.. its not on the upper right side on the hinge like the others are.. the keyboard is flush with sides.. looks like a black m1330 if u ask me. also pictures 8 12 and 13 are pictures of this "mystery machine"

I don't think it's the new xps 1330. It doesn't appear to have the signature metal palmrests of the current xps series. Why would they downgrade in terms use of materials? It also seems thicker although that may just be because the edges are not as sharply tuckered in front as the current 1330's. It also only has 2 ports for audio in and out. Why would dell downgrade from 3 ports? It's probably a 13 inch studio.

I don't know... it could be... but it looks a lot more like the XPS m1330 than the Studio line. Don'tcha think?

If it is a new XPS model, maybe Dell decided to change it up a bit? Maybe they're moving away from the metal palmrests? Maybe they want their own "Blackbook"? Maybe they decided the audio input jack was better on the side? Maybe it's a 12" XPS laptop?

    Who knows.

Maybe its undercover like the cars with the black tape over the lights... Maybe it DOES have another audio input and metal palmrests, they just painted over them to trick us!!!

It looks like its using the M1330 bits and pieces, but I am pretty certain this is not the successor. Those pictures were taken at a Dell Studio event, chances are this is part of the Studio line.

lol how did people think it was the M1330 successor?

    no HDMI
    no dual headphones
    no wwan slot
    no graphics card
    its thicker
    topside is plastic

Its clearly a standard Inspiron with its lack of many ports that the Studio and XPS has. It has no HDMI port, nothing.

It feels kinda weird how aesthetically it looks more XPS, though the Studio is what gets all the actual functionality and ports, etc.

Maybe XPS is the hybrid of the two? Is Dell aiming for a "Best of both worlds" approach with XPS? (+ Dedicated GFX card of course)

It is too different from the other Studios. The 1435 was shelved anyhow.
I think derviskemal got it with the Inspiron 1318 suggestion. I was going to say maybe it was the Dell E Slim 12 inch, but it looks identical to the 1318. Check that thread.

No one has leaked any details about it. Its not the "Inspiron 1318" its just a name the OP made up. Though I am pretty sure its an Inspiron for reasons aforementioned.

Come on Dell leak your next XPS Notebook!

The lack of ports and the matte finish on the palm rest makes me think this might be a standard, budget Inspiron. But then again, wouldn't it be redundant to have this and the Vostro 1310?

And yes, this laptop does look almost exactly like the one in the Inspiron 1318 thread. We'll find out soon, I guess!

It def. can't be a new XPS, it doesn't look half as good quality (thicker, no brushed aluminium), and it doesn't have the same ports as XPS had. So there's no logic on that, so whoever thinks it's an XPS.. might want to reconsider... at least that's what I think.
it might be the Inspiron 1318, but since it looks more like a Studio than a Inspiron (only looks wise...) then it might be more logical to call it a Studio 13, no?
Anyhow, I guess we'll see in (hopefully) a short while.

Oh, and Dell.... please get some leaked info on the XPS refresh - I might just buy anew notebook at the end of this year and I'm dying to see how the new XPS' would look and what they have inside (9700GT FTW!)

Yeah seriously, where is the XPS refresh. I want to see it like now. Im pretty sure since the Inspiron line is audaciously invating M1330 and M1530 territory, they are confident that the next XPS refresh will take on a totally new level of luxury in a good way. Its pretty hard to beat a design like the M1330 or M1530.

It wouldn't be hard to beat their speakers.
And they could improve the cooling on the M1330.
