I am currently turning an old Dell into a digital LCD picture frame. I know it worked before I disassembled it because I tested it. Yesterday I took the whole thing completely apart, but today when I try to turn it on, the LCD is not showing up anything at all, neither will it display on an external LCD. It also turns off after 30 seconds to 1 minutes.

I have the lcd ribbon cable, the cpu, the hard-drive, the mouse, the keyboard, and the power switch board all plugged in. All that is not plugged in is the speakers, wifi, cd, and battery.

I have taken apart many laptops and never had this happen. Perhaps I am missing something? I just so happens that I am using this exact laptop http://www.instructables.com/id/Dell-Laptop-into-Digital-Photo-Frame/.

I should also mention that somehow the hdd blew when I tested it for the first time.

Try plugging an external monitor into the VGA port and see if that makes anything better. If nothing comes out, try checking and reseating the memory, processor, etc.

Just got on to post my fix. Turns out the CPU was not sitting correctly. My woes have faded away.
