Hello all,
I ordered a Dell XPS 1530 on March 25 with the specs below and received it in about 6 days. I got the $1500 laptop (with the $600 off deal) with the T7250 2.0GHz processor. I didn't really pay attention to the processor at the time of the buy because I didn't personalize anything. I just visited Dell's site today and found out that the default processor for the same price is T8300 2.4GHz. Did Dell really make an upgrade this quickly or did I get screwed? Would it be worth it to contact Dell? Thanks.
Basic Specs:
-- Intel® Core 2 Duo T7250 (2MB cache/2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB)
-- 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)

-- High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1440x900) & 2MP Camera
-- 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
-- Size: 320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive

Well yes you did get a bit screwed, but prices and components change so much that as soon as something enters a price range something has already replaced it.
Thing is you can't exactly blame Dell, and if you phoned them i wouldn't say your going to get a free upgrade from them to a Penryn CPU. You could try it though, but be polite on the phone. -
The difference is $75 dude....is that what you're worried about? -
Yea 30 day guarantee. I think they will offer you money not an actual upgrade. But as said be polite also if you talk to a CS rep who seems obtuse just hang up and call back. They are people and if you get one that doesn't get it no point in getting blue in the face. Also they may act like they don't understand your point (saves them money) just stay cool and if they don't make you happy offer to send it back and just reorder.

i think you have a 21 day return period with no questions asked. try that and reorder the penryn.
-
dont you have to pay for them to take it back unless they have got your order wrong or there is something wrong with the laptop?
-
Thanks for the replies. It was good advice. I will at least try asking for an upgrade.

I just called Dell today. They offered me two choices: Keep my computer and get a $150 discount or send it back for a full refund for free, no shipping/handling (though there's nothing wrong with the laptop). Despite what I've heard before, their customer service is pretty good. I'm think I'm going to return the laptop and get the $1199 one on the current 10 day sale if it's faster. I guess the lessons are:
1. It never hurts to ask
2. Catching up to technology is like President Nader. Not gonna happen. -
If you have no problems with your current model I would not think about switching it. I'd take the 150 discount and be happy. Just me though.
Did I get a bad deal?
