I have a seagate 160gb/7200 rpm. Very happy with it. It does the occasional clicks but I'm fine with it...

Somone a couple of days back explicitly shot me down on these forums saying that the Seagate drives were not very common on Dell systems. So far, it looks like the majority.... :D

BTW, my sis' XPS m1330 also has a Seagate 160gb 7200 RPM.

My 200GB 7200rpm in my M1530 is on order. Have no idea what it is yet? I am guessing Seagate Momentus as many have stated already. Hitachi would be fine too IMHO.

45C under load (i.e. constant access for 30min), taken from Everest Ultimate 4.20 (Test done on a m1530 T7700 3GB under 40-44% CPU load, and 100% HDD load on battery 9-cell, power save on)

Would a 7200rpm HD be a lot louder than a 5400rpm one? Especially on the m1330?

Check Device Manager in windows. It should give you the ID for your hard drive.

To quote what I said in another thread:

I've had 3 Dell XPS 1530's all I can say is that their hardrives sound like jet engines. First 2 had SEAGATE 160GB 7200 RPM hardrives. The third one had a FUJITSU 160GB 7200RPM hardrive.

They have been so loud its not funny. I'm waiting on my 4th computer mainly due to the previous 3 having shoddy workmanship. I pray that the hardrive will be quieter, to be honest the 2nd one wansn't too bad but my sisters inspiron is silent.

Same here man. I have a ST9200420ASG Hard Drive, which is a Seagate. They're sending me a 160 GB HDD since that was what my first one had and I thought that one was the quietest. I'd take a quiet 160 gig HDD over a 200 gig HDD any day.

I have it in mine, and I think it's kinda loud. It'll be idling and be making substantial amounts of noise. I think too much for what little it's actually doing.
