Looking at a laptop I ordered in November for an Inspiron 1520 I see the following video card:

    1 320-5639 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT $0.00

I just ordered an m1530 XPS laptop and also choose the 8600m GT 256MB. Why does it say this on my invoice????:

    1 320-6082 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M G $0.00

Where is the GT? The part number is even different. Are they not putting a GT in my xps laptop???

They just cut off the "t" in GT.

The part numbers are different becaue they use DDR 3 speed vram in the XPS and DDR 2 ram in the Inspiron series. So technicly the cards are different.

And yes the card in the xps is better then the one in the inspiron.

Wow. The inspiron one is GDDR2?!?! No wonder my wife's laptop runs crysis like crap. I did not even realize it was GDDR2.

I have half a mind to call Dell up and complain about it being GDDR2 since it did not specify that on their website when I ordered. I am just past my 21 day return. Is there any point to calling and complaining? I was not expecting to get that poor of performance on the inspiron 8600m card.

You can always try, whats the worse they could do tell you NO.

I remeber reading on NBR someone who complained to Dell about the same thing and tried to get them to take his 1520 back and exchange it for a 1530. I dont remeber if he was sucessfull or not.

    Just remeber keep it
