I've read a lot of different opinions on the benefits of installing SP 1.
I currently am running Vista Home Premium and don't really have any problems. My computer starts up quickly, and runs great.
Should I stick with what I have, or are there benefits to SP1? Have any of you noticed your laptop running faster/slower, after then install? Any other benefits/issues?
If I should install SP1, should I get it from Dell or from Microsoft?
Thanks for any feedback
(I've read reviews/opinions on SP1, and they seem to vary, so I'd love to hear m1330 owner opinions)

If it's not broken don't fix it...
I didn't not install SP1. I tend to prefer leaving beta testing to others... -
-
I also instaled SP1, havent noticed change...
-
Thanks, guess I"ll leave it as is.
The only minor issue I have is with the dvd player. When I eject a dvd, the computer freezes untili the disk is ejected. I believe this is fixed in a driver update, but I haven't updated that, either.
Thanks for the feedback! -
I don't see a reason why you wouldn't install the service pack. By not doing so you are depriving yourself of possibly crucial updates later on and better stability now.
-
installed it as well and didnt really notice anything besides saying how much ram is installed (4GB).....
-
The displayed ram is 4gb but it still only uses 3.5 or so
The dvd freeze issue is solved with the A10 bios update available in dell, i have installed it and works great -
Why isn't there an A010 bios for the M1530?
-
-
So are you saying that the M1330 bios will work on the M1530? Ok it doesn't, wtf then I want a frigan fix to the eject issue.
-
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. While I have Vista SP1 on my personal laptop, XP will be around where I work for the next few years. Why? Cause it is cheaper. and it still works. Until XP breaks in half or becomes like W2K, we are gonna milk it for all its worth.
-
Bios are model dependant, you Can't install a M1330 bios on a M1530. -
The Bios Number in the M1330 when the M1530 was released, was in A06 or 7, and 1530 was starting in 01, the bios between the laptops is not compatible, they are diferent motherboards, so you cantmix them, but defiitively if dell added Penryn capability in A10, the M1530 must have an equivalent,(the latest update)

PowerDVD would not play audio after I installed SP1...still looking for a fix
-
big increase in file copying speed... I have noticed.... so the upgrade was worth it for me...no problems...
-
Ok this is going to sound like a N00B question (because it is) but this is my first laptop that I've owned, and when we received our newest PC it already had XP Service Pack 2, so I was wondering if it costs to add Service Packs?

Ok, so I'm planning on upgrading to SP1, but I'm going to wait til WU offers it. Anyways I'm looking at current updates available, and some are for MS Office SP1... will that cause any problems?
-
I downloaded it and have it on an ext hd just in case I have to do the ole reformato....around 400mbs give or take I believe
-

-
Well I hope Dell is working on the same eject fix on the M1530............that bugs me to no end is embarrassing if someone is over your house.
-
Too late to ask this question now.....
-
I upgraded to Vista SP1... no problems so far.
-
-
Yeah... my computer is relatively new... and I just reformatted yesterday... so it's still sending me a updates. Eventually once the hotfixes are taken care of it should be offered to me. I have Home Premium, and I'll just wait til it's good and ready.

I've unfortunately got odd delays with the Windows Logon "Welcome" screen as well as an indefinite delay of the logon sound... .
The logon sound is only "triggered" by certain actions, such as using the "show desktop" icon (quick launch area).
My version's Home Premium 6.00.6001 (SP1) -
I'm having no isses with SP1 (so far). Installed it a week after it was made available for download as a standalone package. I installed that in conjunction with a clean install so your "upgrade" install's mileage may vary.
No noticible performance gain, but it has run more stable since. I haven't had a crash since, which is an improvement from an average of once ever week.
I still have the rare odd standby issue when the laptop would not go to sleep when the lid is closed, causing it to run. I suspect this has more to do with some other device drivers hanging (ie. WLAN)
I'm on Vista Business
It took an extraordinary long time to install, took about an hour for mine....is this normal? LOL, i've never had a SP install take this long.... -
I'm on Vista Home Premium.... -
No issues so far, been using SP1 since it first came out on auto dl. Also on Home Premium (which isn't really so premium but meh).

Oh, just as an FYI, Vista wouldn't initially give me SP1 on the available M1730 updates table, so I ended up downloading the SP1 install package directly from Micro$oft's web site. Before installing it, I updated both the 8800GTX SLI video drivers and the Wireless NIC drivers. Then I noticed SP1 show up in my available downloads list. However, since I already had the SP1 install package saved locally, I just ran it off my HD.
Looks like I got lucky with the driver updates... didn't realize that they were required for Vista SP1. -
Odd. WU will permanantly show I need new video drivers, but it gave me SP1. Who knows.
-
upgrade to vista sp1 and then copy any folder around(try it in the same drive and size ~700MB) and trust me you'll be surprised
-
SP1 works great on Vista 64-bit. Waiting a little while to upgrade to SP1 is a good decision at its release date, but I have only seen improvements since installing it a few days ago. Vista x64 was already pretty fast, but file transfering was improved. Stability was the biggest improvement.

Installed SP1 on my new 1330. Running fine

I've been running Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1 for a while now. Experiencing a lot of HD access and apparently slow HD performance. I'm actually pointing the finger at F-Secure for that though.
I'm due for a fresh reinstall quite soon. I've got my 250GB HD split with 34GB each for Ubuntu, XP and Vista. I'm going to lose the XP and Ubuntu partitions and just keep Vista.
XP runs great, as does Ubuntu, but I've found no specific use for either of them - or at least, nothing that I can't do just as well by booting Vista first and then running the other OS through VMWare. I don't use XP or Ubuntu for gaming or graphic-intensive applications. Both are used for development work.
I find Vista SP1 to be excellently stable. My only non-working app is Nokia's software suite. Bluetooth is very unstable and wholly unusable. 'Normal' bluetooth usage is fine, it's just that Nokia's use of it seems to be broken. This is with Vista x64, I have not tried it with x86 (nor will I be bothering).
I'll just run the Nokia stuff through VMWare'd XP, problem solved.
Anyone delaying their installation of Vista SP1 really ought not worry. Back up your data, install it. If anything breaks, reinstall Vista and restore your data. Job done. -
Use the bluetooth drivers and software that comes with XP/Vista.
It is simple and works easily.
I know because I have installed bluetooth for GPRS on over 50 laptops in the last 6 months or so. If you have a Nokia phone you need to put the "init" string in the advanced tab of the Device Driver.
Also, keep your phone at least 5 feet away from the laptop. Too close is as bad as too far away.
You should read the NIST or IEEE facts on Bluetooth and get to know it intimatly as this will help you to know what is real and what is just smoke!
Blessings,

Did you upgrade to Vista SP1? Should I?
