I'm in the process of choosing a new laptop. The M90 looks very appealing but other than the graphics card, it appears to be very much like a inspiron 9400. Is anyone aware of the major differences between the 9400 and the precision line? What would have better resale value in approx 12 months time?
cheers

M90 has a matte screen.

The M90 is a workstation laptop, and is designed for 3D graphics work, and video effects and stuff. The M90 also looks quite a bit different. It looks kind of more like the XPS M170. The 9400 has an option for a matte screen or glossy screen. The M90 will hold its value more in the long run. It's built better looks nicer, and is generally more powerful. But if you want a dell why not the XPS M170?

thanks for the replies. Unfortunately in Australia Dell has never released the XPS line so it has never been an option.

I asked on DELL Chat about the chassis on the M90, 9400, and the XPS. He confirmed that the chassis is *the same*. Looks different, but same material etc.
I think the M90 probably has more expensive components, though. Certainly the graphics card, but I'm guessing they are taking less chances with other aspects as well, such as screen, memory, optical drive etc. The 9400 essentially uses the cheapest components that sort of work.
Again, this is just me guessing, so it'd be nice if we could confirm this.
