    Hi guys,

    what's the difference between Intel's core duo and core 2 duo? Are theses two one and the same or not?

    read my post from 2 minutes ago...

    basically core 2 duo is faster, 64 bit, more energy efficient... however, i am not sure if it's worth the xtra dinero...

    Intel Core Duo is 32bit yes, Core 2 Duo is 64 bit - use the search function theres like 1000 merom/core2duo threads they will answer your questions more thoroughly

    Core Duo 2 offers 3 different advantages over regular Core duo. For one Core duo is 32 bit and Core duo 2 is 64 bit. Core duo 2 CPU's are 20% faster per clock. They also have more cache 4MB's vs 2MB's.

    Oh i see, thank you guys. Is there any core 2 duo on dell's notebook line-up? Particularly on the inspiron series?

    i don't think dell are stocking notebooks with the core 2 duo yet but i "think" you can upgrade them but dont quote me on that

    Be aware some of the Core 2 Duo processors only have 2MB cache (the slowest 2 or 3 of the bunch).

    Core 2 Duo can be dropped into a Core 1 slot, assuming BIOS will read the former. The notebook Core 2 is supposed to be a lot more energy efficient (which translates to less heat generated) as well as what others have mentioned, about bit-processing and cache

    That's only two advantages. The amount of cache isn't an advantage in itself. It just contributes to overall performance, which you already mentioned. :)
