Whats the difference between the 640m and the E1405?

Same machine but different names. 640m is sold in Small bussines.

yep, they are the same thing. 640m = e1405 = xps m140. renaming it to e1405 is a good thing. because this makes it an "inspiron" and not an "xps" and that means u can apply the awesome inspiron coupons out there =)

Not to be too nitpicky, but it would be closer to "XPS M140 version 2" or something.
The changes between the previous model and the current are significant enough to differentiate, I'd say. -

Yes they are: SATA drive, new wireless card interface, HD audio s/w, WXGA+ screen w/TrueLife, Centrino Duo, etc.
