    somms,
That worked a treat, correct instructions to the letter.
Thanks very much. At last the fingerprint reader has more use than just logging in to windows. I am a mozilla user and was not prepared to use nasty old IE for anyone! :)

Thanks!!! I've searched for an alternative to the native fingerprint software on my XPS 1530 for hours and this worked without a problem! Now I can use my fingerprintreader to surf the net!

Since I have only had my Studio 15 for less than a week I should have the latest version right?

Ever since I had this laptop I've been fighting with DigitalPersona Personal because as far as I can tell it works with Firefox 3 as a finger print reader but it also blocks me from downloading from some sites but not all.

A couple of examples is while the DigitalPersona extension is enabled it won't let me download from Zone Alarm's site or even Drivers and Downloads from Dell's site. If I disable the extension then I can download from those sites.

Anyone else run into this and is a DigitalPersona software problem or Firefox?

i have digitalpersona firefox plugin 1.0.1.1. when it's enabled pictures won't save properly, and download links don't often work. the workaround for downloads is to open them in a new tab/window (middle-click).

if anyone finds an update/fix for this, please post notes here!

    Hi,
first thanks a lot for the instructions to install the HP Fingerprintsoftware to any Computer.
But now i have a big problem:

Software: vista 32 Hardware: USB-Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

If i install the Persona Software Version 2.01 everything works fine,
but if i try to install the HP Persona Software 3.1 and i have to plug in the USB Fingerprint Reader, the Programm writes: no Usb-Reader please plug in!

Is there somewone who have a help for my problem?

    Please excuse my bad english!

The inability to download files has plagued me since I got my new Studio 15 2 weeks ago. Fortunately I tried Ctrl-Click which opened a blank tab and lets me download most files, but that's annoying. I wish I knew of a fix for that annoying problem.

I have an HP but am committed to XP for the time being. Is there any DigitalPersona version that will work with XP and Firefox 3.x? A link to it would be a bonus.

    Thank you!

The fix is buying and installing Internet Download Manager v5.15.

After installing this program, I'm able to download files without pressing Ctrl-Click or ALT while having DigitalPersona Personal Fingerprint software enabled. Works with IE7 and FireFox 3.

    I hope this helps. :)

Very nice. I followed your instructions and got it working perfectly on Windows 7 on the Dell Studio 1537. For anybody interested in Windows 7 or Windows XP on the Dell Studio 1537, I've documented my experiences at http://sites.google.com/site/dellstudio15info/

I have had this problem since the third day after receiving my new laptop. I have been using the restore function to get around it since I did not want to take the time to go through this solution. It has worked fine, but after having it fail about 8 times in the three weeks I have had my computer, I decided it was time to fix it once and for all this morning. Unfortunately, this began a two hour process of hunting and searching for an editor program that worked.

One correction needs to be made to these instructions. Orca is no longer available. It is supposedly now only part of the SDK pack, but after waiting through the HUGE download of that - even without documentation and samples, I still was unable to find the program. SuperOrca, which I tried before the SDK download, DOES NOT WORK.

I was finally able to get it to work with InstEd It!. The program works as is, and does not require any changes. It can be found here: http://www.instedit.com/download

This was really quick to do once I found the program. Now I just have to re-enroll all my passwords. UGH!

The "fix" lasted a whole three days on my computer. That is about as long as it originally worked. As if that isn't bad enough, it has crashed twice in four hours. I have used System Restore both times to get the fingerprint reader software to work again. Both times it crapped out was right after I had to do a restart. Between the fingerprint reader and my virus protection software, which cannot connect to Trend's server since it is apparently too busy - I am about to throw my computer out the window this evening!
