hey guys, i know some of you are familiar with the release of the 8800gtx by Nvidia and that vista and directx 10 are right around the corner.
Now. Being somewhat of an amateur economist and having been debating this laptop thing for a while now, I have come to conclusion to buy an XPS 1710.
However, I do know that Nvidia recently release the 7950 then came a mobile version, maybe a month later? Now they released the first directx 10 graphics card, and I'm assuming they are playing with a mobile version by now, because companies do tend to think years ahead. Should I wait for the next generation XPS notebooks? From what I understand after christmas will start the production of a new XPS notebook (preferably better styling this time). Now they will be pricey, but given that after christmas the economy tends to cool down, i expect prices to drop or be be equivalent to current prices. Now Vista is also going to be out. Should I wait til after christmas? That way I can get directx 10 on a notebook with vista? Or should I get one now and suffer on later?
I mean I have heard arguments that directx 10 for a notebook won't be out for a while, while traditionally that may be true, I'd expect dell to somewhat urge the graphics cards makers to develop a directx10 capable notebook to go along with vista (that way vista won't be crippled) in order to keep a competitive edge.

I'm not sure if Windows XP can use directx 10 capabilites even if your GPU can. You might have to get Vista first in order to use directx 10 to the full extend.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
They wont be crippled, the only DX10 only game slated right now is halo2, which is old news and hardly a must have, game devolpers cater to the masses, wich means a strong focus on windows xp,and DX9,there is no killer app slated for DX10 yet, there are games slated that will support it, and give you a handful of new bits and pieces, though no where close to a full blown DX10 experience, and there wont be until vista starts to have a mainstream user base, wich I would wager will be at least two years, hardware advances 3 to 4x faster than software, remember the first cards with programable shaders? and remember that that those cards were practically on their third generation before there were any A-list apps that took advantage of them? A lot of folks shelled out big wads to run tech demos and play a scant handful of really pretty, yet horribly lame games, DX10 is pretty much weeks away, anything useful or desireable for DX10 is much much further away
The first and even second gerenations of new tech video cards is seldom worth the money,by the time hardcore A-list apps come out, your first run cards wont be able to keep up, and there will be cards for half the cost, that have twice the power, and more features
