Does anyone know if the blu-ray burner that is used in the XPS 16 can be used as a direct swap in the studio 15?

The reason I am asking is because I have a 16 with the blu-ray burner but the xps 16 is a bit bulky. I still need equivalent power and multi-media capabilities but the 15 is almost a pound lighter and lends to a little more portability.

I am considering purchasing the studio 15 but can't justify the costs of adding the blu-ray. I got my xps 16 with blu-ray for a steal and I can't duplicate those kind of savings with the changes recently made to EPP.

Ideally, I would like to swap the dvd drive and throw it into the 16 in addition to adding the blu-ray to the 15.

    Thanks in advance!

Taking these things apart can be quite the task however. Especially the trayless drives ... I would consider just forking over the extra for the 15 with BR.

I originally ordered a Studio 15 with DVD. Thankfully the order got back ordered, the day BR became available for the Studio 15. So I cancelled the order ... and for $150 more I got the BR Buner (Dell cut me a bit of deal).

I was considering the same thing ... somehow getting a BR unit and taking the Studio apart ...

Again though ... once the BR burner became available ... I jumped on it and called it good ...

I am sure the drives are the same. Those parts are generally standard allowing Dell to source parts from anyone who has supply.

Thanks for the replies. I am still debating the idea at this point. I may just purchase it with the drive.

As for the drive in my XPS it is one of those panasonic mata(UJ235A) blu-ray burners.

Heh, profanity filters. It is the panasonic mats-hita. Had to put the dash in there to get it through.
