Does anybody know how to disable one of the CPU's in the dell studio bios? I couldn't find it. Thanks for your help.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Should be somewhere under "system performance" or "performance" or something like that if you have the option in your BIOS...
-
Just because I'm nosey.. why do you want to?
-
There is no BIOS function to disable the CPU, or even one of the cores. There isn't even a reason as to why you would want to do this.
-
If there's an option, it will be called something like "disable multiple core support". My E1705 has it.
-
Also, whilst it's not disabling a core, you can tell certain processes to have an affinity with one core over the other via the Task Manager.
Really not sure why you would even consider turning one of the cores off though. -
Would it consume less power?
-
The core itself consumes very little power compared to other structures on the CPU die, such as the massive L2 cache, which consumes the majority. The performance benefit is worth it versus the negligible power consumption.
-
yes... unless you can physically seperate one core from the other... !
