I was hoping that someone would know how to disable the front buttons [DVD control buttons] during normal Win XP use. I still want these buttons to works when I press MediaDirect.

Since I use my E1505 99% of the time on my lap, I find I frequently randomly press these buttons only to have something pop-up on the screen. Most often its the volume control and somehow volume mute is enabled. Very annoying.

I poked around Control Panel and searched, didn't find anything.

    Thanks,
    Hermit

you can disable quickset and you won't get the volume/brightness meters popping up.

you'll lose some Fn+__ functionality and the buttons will still work, but nothing will pop up on the screen.

    Thanks drumfu, :)

My last Dell [1100] didn't have all these whistles & bells. That did indeed stop the pop-ups. The volume mute is still active, but it toggles so that's actually better. Just discovered on eBay, many listing have audio, So that mute will come in handy. I've been opening volume and clicking on the mute box.
