I am currently using a USB mouse and the touchpad is annoying me while i type. I have tried searching for proper ways of disabling it but i couldn't find anything that would work, other than uninstalling the drivers. I am using Vista and i can't disable it through the device manager or the mouse settings in the control panel. Any ideas?! (And no i would rather not cover the touchpad with something)

If there isn't an option to disable touchpad when mouse is connected in your mouse settings in control panel then try to install the drivers from Dell website. BTW that option is in the Mouse Properties box > Device Settings Tab or if you are in that tab and select the settings box another window will pop up, might be in there. I had a similar problem with my Acer laptop until I installed the manufacturer's default drivers. In my acer, there is also a Fn + F7 shortcut key to disable the touchpad on demand, have you looked around for a similar option?

I don't have a Device Settings Tab. I have a SetPoint settings tab which opens up my Logitechs MX518 settings :( I installed Vista with the Dell CDs, including the drivers, so i don't think i need to download any drivers. The Fn + something sounds familiar so ill give it a try! Thanks :)

Try control panel-->system-->hardware--->device manager and disable the touchpad

That doesnt work with Vista, or at least my Vista. I can't disable it, but i can uninstall the drivers which i would rather avoid
