    Hi,
I own a inspiron 6400 and i just restored my system using the dell restore. I wanted to knpw the way of disabling bluetooth. I have disalbed it from device manager and there is no icon of it in the system tray, but the blue light always stays on making me wonder if its really disabled and if yes why isnt the light switching off.
Is there a way to disable bluetooth completely along with the light.

    Thank you

Maybe there is a BIOS setting, but usually disabling something in windows makes it stop working completely. Probably the laptop's motherboard checks to see if it exists or not, and if it does, the light goes on, whether it is working or not. Try uninstalling the drivers (if you haven't already) and disabling it. If that doesn't work, try starting Linux and see if that makes the light turns off (to my knowledge linux support for bluetooth is pretty lax).

Failing all those, you could crack open your computer and remove the bluetooth module outright; that would definitely turn off the light if anything will, though that will probably void the warranty

Do you have a bluetooth icon in the system tray? It goes red when you're connected to a device... Otherwise I believe the bluetooth is always on and searching for devices to connect to, similar to the activity of your wireless card. Turning it off will save a bit of battery power by the way.

If you want the funky light to stay on, you probably need that program active. Try re-enabling it in your system menu, and see if the light comes on afterwards. If the light stays on as long as the program stays on, then your **** outta luck. I totally understand and sympathize, that bluetooth startup crap is a massive memory hog, and extremely redundant. My kudos goes to the first company to spit out a bluetooth module that is more user friendly and less of a memory eater.

oh, then definitely not. The software has to be on for it to connect, and it needs windows to recognize it and software to transmit any signal.
