I'm currently on AC power, with a cordless mouse. Is there a way to disable the touchpad? It gets in the way sometimes when I'm word processing. I went to device manager, but under 'mouse and other pointers', I don't see an option for touchpad. Help?

Unfortunately there's no touchpad icon on my taskbar. I did a clean install about a week ago, if that has any effect?

Did you reinstall the drivers for the touchpad after your reformat? If not, I would start there, then you should have control over it to disable it.

Unistall the driver and install this:

You can disable touchpad, but only in manual mode, not automatic mode when detecting mouse
