So for a short while now I have been working up to a clean install of Vista on my new 1520. I want to create a Disk Image of the original factory settings, but after researching and talking to various people about it I am still a little confused.

I downloaded Acronis True Image (Flamenko's Advice) and was following the steps to create a complete disk image. But than I realized that it wasnt a Disk image of the factory settings but instead was a disk image of the current state of my HD.

How do you burn the original dell factory disk image to a DVD???

Restore the OS using the factory reset capability of the notebook, then immediately image the drive.

Sorry, I'm an idiot, that solution requires absolutely no knowledge just plain common sense. Thanks Greg

Any other Ideas just for the sake of ease and laziness?

Dell should have left a partition there on the HD with a factory default image. Why do you want to create another one? You can access that one by pressing F11 or something during start up.

imo, its better to wipe everything including the dell recovery partition and install windows from the beginning.

    Go here http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/

Grab the seagate discwizard software. Its a free stripped down version of acronis true image. Theres an option to burn a startup disk once the software is installed.

Once you've got the startup disk you can boot from it then you'll be able to save the image.

You won't be able to save the image to dvds unless you install the seagate software onto your notebook. If you do it with the startup disk your going to need an external hard drive.

Its not really that much to go through but it is alot to keep the bloatware. Trust me your not going to miss it.
