I am now using Dell Inspiron 1420 with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100...

How can I allocate more memory to the onboard display? I see no option on adjusting the size of display memory in BIOS.

    Thanks all.

There a particular reason you want to do this? I'm assuming you want better performance out of your IGP, and if that's the case then don't even bother.

Right, I want to have better performance as I found that the frame rate of playing some movie clips are quite low.

How to enhance the performance apart from adjusting the size of memory?

    Thanks a lot.

movie clips = cpu, not gpu

Well for one, increasing shared memory amount is NOT going to get you any peformance icrease. So it's useless to even bother. That ram is better used as system ram than more vram. If whatever you're doing doesn't run well on your IGP, then increasing its shared ram won't do squat. You could try overclocking the core, but I've yet to see someone do that to their x3100.

Also as notebookyoozer mentioned, what you're doing is more cpu dependant than gpu. A gpu deals with 3D models and animation, and last time I checked movies were 2D.

Movies can be accelerated by the gpu. The 8xxx series of nvidia gpus accelerate blueray and hddvd playback.

What software are you using to play the movies. Make sure you have the hardware acceleration option checked.

Well HD/BluRay movies are a complete different story and the gpu does play a big factor. But the OP did not mention anything about HD movies.

In either case, like I said before: increasing your shared ram will not do anything to help aleviate your problem.
