I know you can get an adapter for Displayport to HDMI. I am wondering what, if any are the differences between the two and if I have displayport, is it the same quality AND function (both video and sound)?

If anyone has some thoughts, let me know the scoop. I am looking at the new Dells with displayport but want the functionality of HDMI for movies.

    Thanks...

Does Display Port support sound too? I have no idea (and don't really care personally...)

Between the two, my understanding is Display Port is more advanced-supports higher bit rates so higher resolutions, etc., and also royalty free (or cheaper?).

I'm annoyed that there are two standards though. As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason in 2008, when computers, monitors, TVs, game systems, DVRs, etc., are all aspects of the same thing that we can't just standardize on a single connection technology. Oh well!
