    This is the situation

A while ago I ordered my Dell Xps 1710. I asked the sales representatives first if the Core 2 Duo was going to be released shortly, while they said it would take a few months. Ok so I didn't mind so I ordered it at once. So now almost a month later I still don't have my laptop and I see the core 2 Duo is available at the same price. I'm almost waiting a month now.

I'm kinda mad that I had to pay the same price for the Core Duo and they kinda pushed me by saying the core 2 duo was not going to be released shortly.

I was wondering if I can ask an upgrade as I still don't have my laptop or otherwhise I would cancel my order and ask for a refund because this really sucks.

In Europe you can get a refund within 7 days without paying fees except shipping, without further questions asked. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Can anyone help me out or say me what to do because I have no clue about this situation.

If I were you I would call and ask to change your order, otherwise they could just cancel it all together and you could place a new one. You'll get stuck with a longer wait, but you'll be much happier about your purchase.

I'm not sure if the Core Duo 2 will change your computing experience in a big way, but, for your peace of mind, I'd go ahead and have it changed.

    Good luck.

If you still don't have you can call for a order cancelation. Maybe you'll wait more but you will get the cre 2 duo and if it's for the same price you should really go for it.

call the original sales rep, tell them they lied to you and now you're going to cancel your order and go elsewhere. at the very least, the rep should apologize, change your order, and knock a little off the price (push for this because of the delay this will add to the system delivery). worst case, if the rep doesn't make you happy, cancel the order as you b**ch them out...then call another rep and place a new order!

If it has allready been shipped then expect a 15% restocking fee to exchange or cancel the order. But you might have a good fight on your hands to stop that. Personally I'd try to get them to refund you some money or send you some thing for the trouble. The sales reap really didn't lie to you, they were just going on the information they had. Dell does not inform its reps with every second of information on the products when they are released. I know this because I have been into sales. But id call and ask for somethign refunded, something at least for your trouble. You go in looking for a fight your just gonna get screwed and end up unhappy in the end.

call em........ I changed an order a bit after I bought a couple years ago just cause the price had changed on something. They cancelled, put in a new order (I waited a bit more but it was all good and they were helpful). Dont judge the whole company by one person either. there are many times one person in cust service is REALLY not helpful in a company and then another person goes out of their way to help. If the person puts up a fight, then as said before, just cancell the order and re order from someone else.

If its been shipped, just fight it with what you told us.

Well I ordered it via a 3th party because I could save arround 30% of the price. Dell doesn't give out any coupons overhere so it was the best I could do.

So they charge me 25% is I want to exchange and then I need to wait one month more.

I want to save me the hassle, its not the end of the world however I still don't like the way they have told me about the upgrades. The Xps 1710 is already a beast so I don't think you will see much difference and the batterlife with the curent chips are better I read somewhere.

Anyway Thank you for all your help and support, I really love this forum.

If you got a 30% off the price for the Core Duo just keep that one, cause the Core 2 Duo will not increase in performance by that much!
I only changed my order for the Core 2 because it would be the same price.
Furthermore you can easily upgrade later on to the Core 2 duo. You will, at most, just need a BIOS update.

you wont see any real difference between like clocked core duo vs core 2 duo, core 2 will give you 64bit os support, thats about it, and that wont be really useful to the average user for quite awhile

The subject title is misleading, if it wasn't Dell how can you be dissapointed in them?

    +1

If you got that great of a deal on it, just keep it. The Core Duo is still a great processor, one that you won't be disappointed in. The Core 2 Duo is a little faster, but nothing you will notice. And it's no faster at all in games.
