I finally got my e1705 and it is great. After reading on here about build quality I was nervous. However coming from an emachines notebook, it feels great! It is also lighter then my M6807 (or so it seems)....

Anyhow back to the point, I bought it from ebay and it never said that I had the $25 audio software on the machine but when I ran Belarc advisor it stated:

    SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC

Is that the normal stuff or the software HD stuff?

That is just the integrated sound card that all of them have.

Like mZimm said, the Sigmatel is the actual driver for your hardware. The audio option that you are talking about is just extra software. Under your start menu, if you see software called Creative or Soundblaster (possibly a combination of the two), that would be the extra audio option.

Sigmatel is the regular integrated card

Soundblaster software is not worth it imho. The high definition audio is not that "high definition". You'd probably know right away if it's installed w/o looking around. So most likely you don't have it. All that means is that you saved yourself $20.
