    Hi

My vostro 1500 has horrible 'electronic' noise on the headphone & mic socket. I need to use the mic socket to record stuff but it's useless at the moment due to the noise that is added to the recording.

Is this a problem with every 1500 as I don't want it replaced if the next one is going to have the same fault?

i cant comment on my mic socket but my headphone socket gives off great sound, no "noise" at all.

I believe it's Vista 1500's that are affected, not XP

That's not true, its a hardware problem. Xp, Vista, Dos, Bios, they all have it.

THe noise also depends on the headphones you use. Impedance and sensitivity also play a roll in the noise.

    Really?

I heard it was primarily a Vista problem with the sound drivers. I saw a link to it on this forum the other day. I don't have time now, so I'll have to research it later.

I don't have any buzzing when I'm at the bios screen, it starts when Vista loads.

I guess Dell is already aware of this problem. I've read some threads in this forum that Dell is already working on a BIOS fix as well as an audio driver to address this issue.
