Sorry if this question has already been asked but.. is this a fairly common problem? :/ I might look into buying an M1530 and it looks good other than this. I'd probably get one with a 250 GB (5400 rpm) hard drive. Thanks in advance![]()

just certain hdd's. and if you ask which one is quietest you'll get different answers. same with performance across one with same capacities/speed. my opinion on quietest one though is western digital's scorpio.

I can barely hear my hard drive. Unless you use your laptop with your ear right on the hard drive, then you shouldn't really notice much.

BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
*puts ear on HDD....
*opens a movie
no noise...... just the usual hdd noise...
*goes back to standard position*
no noise whatsoever.
my hdd = 160gb 7.2k rpm -
so yeah, you'll get different opinions -
Hello!
Maybe, I am lucky...(knock on lappy)
But, my HD is quiet thus far, and I like it that way!!! -
I have the Seagate 200GB 7200 and it's very quiet. The 2 first M1530 I recaived had the Samsung 250GB 5400 and they where making very loud 'Click' sounds every once in a while.
-
hm.. okay that worries me a bit because i was looking at a 250 gig hdd :/
-
so what about the 5400 rpm 320GB hdd? is it noisy at all, i need to cause im getting a m1530 or the revised xps if it comes soon enough.
-
different brands and different opinions. usually, western digital and seagates are regarded as quietest. fujitsu and hitachi are usually regarded as noisy. but some will say opposite. and usually hitachi's are faster in performance overall. but some will disagree. higher density and rpm's are factors to consider in performance.

Can you guys post the HD model along with your thoughts on it?
I have the hitachi and it is a bit noisey and annoying. Would love to know if there is a quieter model. -
My friend [see avatar] has Toshiba 320 GB inside his XPS M1530 and is silent as graveyard

Do all M1530s have "hard drive noise" issues or just certain HDDs?
