I have decided I am going to be replacing my HP dv6500t with something a little more powerful and a little bigger.

Back in august I originally bought a 1520, but was forced to return it due to these issues:

    • Grainy Screen
    • Headphone Disturbance from CPU
    • Loose keyboard keys

It was partly my mistake for ordering during the school rush.

Are these issues still affecting the notebooks that Dell is currently shipping?
Are there any other big new issues?
How long (typically) is the layover from the time of order to the shipped date?

There were many delays during the school rush, especially for the M1330. I believe NBF was forced to add the Shipping Status sub-forum because of this. Are the 1720s in high demand?

Also, for the hard drive, is the 2x160 setup in some sort of RAID?

You should be able to set it up in raid if you would like. Any notebook could have issues, if you get another lemon, exchange and reorder.

That setup is raid, which is good. As for demand, this is a slower season for laptop sales, so i dont think any laptops are "in demand".

It will always be x % defective laptops, wether you buy something from apple or dell does not really matter. Therefor a company should offer a good support, Apple support has failed me so many times ... but the dell support is really in the top (my exp ofc).

    1. Unfortunately, yes. There's now even an automatic hyperlink that directs to a thread about grainy screens when you type... grainy screen. lol. I think the headphone jack issue isn't that common anymore, if it still exists. There hasn't been too much complaints on the keyboard either. The really "popular" issue right now is the grainy screen, basically.

    2. On the popular XPS 1530, other issues include a shocking wrist rest and some heat problems.

    3. I don't really know. lol.

    4. Not really, at least currently. They're now available with Penryn, though, so that might boost demand.

    5. I'm inclined to say yes but I don't even know which RAID setup is present [0 or 1]. lol.

You know it's bad when people (who shalt be un-named) start complaining about people complaining about a problem.

Thevjm, I assume you are wanting a faster GPU? I think you and I got our dv6500t at almost the same time. If I remember your system had an issue with playback audio? Or was it someone else? At any rate, I am still loving my HP and so far nothing to complain about. I do like the looks of the 1530 but from the reads on this forum, i am assuming the build quality/screen issues are the same as they were last summer.. bad.
