Do you believe the Dell Mini 9 will be available for a long time?

Or phased out like the Asus eee pc's in 8.9"?

I am getting an Asus 1000he which is a great little netbook, and still very small.. but for some reason within the next 9 months I want to get a Dell Mini 9 for the novelty factor of it being small

I would assume it would be on how Dell positions it in their lineup. I see it potentially going two ways:

The Mini 9 would stay pretty much as is, so it can be used as a "teaser" low-cost model and paired with those mobile broadband offers, etc. Dell would play up the fact that there's a Mini for everyone in 9, 10, and 12 inch sizes, yet it's not as confusing of a decision as deciphering which Asus EEE PC model fits your needs

    OR

Either the Mini 9 or 12 gets phased out (remember that there are strong indicators that the 12 could be shown the door) and the 10 will take the 12's spot as Dell's premium netbook. (it already is sort of with it's HDMI Out, etc.) Mini 9 would remain their low end offering. If the 9 is discontinued, they may do a major refresh of the 12 to make it more competitive and premium, in order to better seperate the 10 and 12.

Sorry, but i've always been interested in advertising/marketing (Why am i not going to school for that instead? :p) so stuff like this-seeing how and why companies make decisions like this-interests me.

I'm just as interested to see how this pans out. :)

They make those decisions based on profit but it would be nice to be paid just to decide these sorts of things.

I think, it will still be around for a while. It's a good entry level netbook for Dell's market...even having both it's Pros and Cons, about it!

I still enjoy mine very much...for being portable, it does it job...well!

From I've been reading, the 8/9" netbook market is in decline. People seem to like the 10", appears to be the best compromise between portability and still having a decent keyboard to type on. Yes the 9" models are very small, but at the end of the day, the little bit extra in size that comes with the 10" screen is more than outweighed by the better keyboard and extra screen real estate.

Asus have stated they will be phasing out there 9" model netbooks, pointing at the popularity of the 10" size. At the end of the day, it all comes down to sales.

Then again, Dell could make themselves a niche with the 9", if all the other manufacturers pull out, they could be laughing!

Sales for the Mini 9, still seem to be strong, and holding steady...I will assume that Dell will keep this one availi', going forward.

After all, it's their *entry Netbook* :D

And, if the other manuf's pull out...they will surely *smirking* :D

I have the same question, and am thinking of buying one of the mini Dells. Personally I would like the mini 12 but the hardrive and cpu is smaller then the mini 10. Could be as the othe person says it might be getting the axe, guess we will have to wait and see....

There is nothing *factual* yet from Dell stating they are going to end the Mini 12 line. So, until I hear otherwise..I will remain optimistic.

And, I'm fairly certain the Mini 9 will be around for a long while. It was Dell's entry Netbook into the market.

Looks like a good little machine, just not so keen on small SSD space, and the keyboard.
