I know the general benchmark is Crysys, but then again, some people say the game itself is not extremely well coded and the 8600 does awesome in all other games. To those who bought an m1530, did you actually considered other laptops? Ones with a 8800 in it?
-
No 15.4" laptop has an 8800 untill the alienware m15x comes out so looking at laptops with 8800's in them opens up a whole new level of laptop performance, hardware, and prices.

Which will be hell pricy probably
Thanks for the info

One thing to consider is just the sheer fact that putting high end GPU hardware in 15" laptops isnt easy. there is size restrictions, heat and cooling problems, the notebook has to be able to keep up with it and not bottleneck.
And then make it affordable.
for the basic/medium gamer, the 8600GT is enough nowadays. mine can play any game i've thrown at it fine. maybe not Max settings. but med at least. That should be enough for most people. If your a hardcore gamer and need a gaming notebook, a 15" isnt for you. 17" notebooks are for gaming. Personally, i don't see the need for high end gaming notebooks. i built a gaming PC five years ago for $1000 and only put $300 worth of upgrades into it and it still plays high end games maxed out.
So, no i do not find it bad that they only offer the 600GT. It should be fine for awhile. -
Your reasoning makes a lot of sense actually, I do have a 6600 GT in my desktop as of now, so the 8600 will be quite an upgrade anyway
-
Yeah, this is what it came down to for me. If you're thinking to yourself that you need a top-of-the-line graphics card, then what are you doing running it on a 15" screen? On the flip side, I realized that I don't play enough games (or high-end ones) to justify waiting (and paying for) an 8800, or even an SLI. So although it would be great to say, "yeah, this baby is an 8800," I'd basically just be saying that I was a sap because then I'd be like, "...it plays Free Cell great!!" (j/k) But you know what they say, before you buy a computer, figure out what you want to do with it.

If you're a hardcore gamer, you should be looking at desktops

Good point

I <3 my 8600. Sure it's nothing compared to my desktop but that credit card sized card can do some wonders considering. Plays everything I wanna play just fine
.
And when the 9600m GT is out in laptops sometime in the spring or summer of 2008 (which apparently has the power of the 8800GTS), I'll consider maybe getting a newer laptop when I find a game that I just have to play and my laptop can't handle.
Regardless if you're a hardcore gamer what the hell are you doing on a laptop. You'll look like a lamer at Lan-Parties. Everyone else's systems will be glowing with neons and fancy fans meanwhile you'll be on you're dull laptop.
Besides, we're gonna be due to build new desktops soon this summer anyways. Some wild new stuff Nvidia announced,
.
Computers are like a black hole, but instead of sucking everything in, they only suck in money..
Do you consider the fact Dell's xps line offering a 8600gt as their best vid card a problem?
