Do you still haggle on the price if you are using a coupon?

I'm ordering my Vostro 1500 in a few hours, and wonder if theres any point in trying to get the price a little lower. I'm already using a 20% off coupon. Ordering through a kiosk.

Price is currently $1122.00cnd(orig. $1403.00) but i'm going to ask to go from the t5470 to a t7300 which will prob. add another $200. Think its reasonable to ask for another discount?

When I went, (here in the US) they told me that they no longer stack coupons. :( Could have saved me another $150.

Just got back... I decided to take my business else where... The guy flat out lied to me about the vostro(saying it has the same case as the inspiron 1520, but that the internals were "Totally" different, and that there was no IR receiver so he couldn't add a express card remote, and that the 7-pin S-video break out box[to component and s/pdif] was only for sale to people who were buying XPS machines)

Then when i asked about upgrading the processor to a T7300, he said it would cost an extra $400... So the 'deal' he was giving me(which had the 20% off coupon applied) was going to cost me $100 more then if i had just configured the most expensive option they had for sale on the website, to the same specs.

So to sum up, i went over there expecting to get a expensive config. of a vostro 1500 for around ~$1350cnd($250 more then with the t5470) along with an extra express card remote, and a s-video break-out box(assuming those 2 items would add another $60 at the most). I was given a $1600 bill, with a flat out refusal that he would sell me the accessories, along with a lie that they wouldn't even work.

I decided to check out Futurshop, across the street, and was ignored by the entire staff :| Since the vostro deal fell though, i was planning on getting a tx1300. Course that wouldn't happen because of the 4 people who were standing around, 1 was busy helping another customer, and the other 3 were talking amongst themselves.

I guess i'll keep my M70 for a few more weeks.

edit-I should mention i got the M70 at futureshop as well... and was also ignored. When my dad walked in to meet me there, he was quickly helped by the staff... So i guess the trick to getting service when buying a 1k+ item there, is to NOT look like a teenager, but rather a middle aged bald man with lots of disposable income. Go figure.

lol, yeah well i can attest the motherboards ARE different on the vostros and inspirons. but that is where the differences stop. i see your frustrations, but just because one dell kiosk employee was an air head doesnt mean you should have given up on dell. you could call dell and talk to a csr and see if they can get you a better deal.

Its the only kiosk in my province, and i dont have a credit card to pay for it over the phone. Infact the kiosk itself wouldn't accept cash or debit either. I understand cash... but no debit? Even if i had chosen to pay the 1600 he was asking, i would have also had to go down to my bank to get a money order made out($7 fee, and more importantly, a set in stone price.)

I'm sure the bios is different in the vostro compared to the inspiron, but i thought that(along with the paint job) were the ONLY differences. Do they actually have their own custom motherboards? Seems kinda wasteful to build 2 different types on mainboards for 2 laptops that are exactly the same in every other way, again, other then the paint.

In Canada though? I'm pretty sure dell's the ONLY computer company here that sells santa-rosa laptops that arnt more then 2k. To give you an idea of the market, the cheapest version of the toshiba X205(T7100, no HD-DVD drive, single 8700gt, 2 gigs of ram, 200gig 4200rpm drive) is $2500. I'm pretty sure circuit city in america has it for around $1600 or less.
