Just looking at the new Vostro line...I think I like the sleek all-black even better than the multi-colored Inspirons. AND since the prices are lower, I might just end up buying a 1400.
Right now Dell is running a "Smart Value Package" which includes the following for only $100:
I like everything on there except the 128MB NVIDIA card (I don't play games, and I'm going to run Linux, so I would prefer the base Intel Graphics card), and the 9-cell battery (I am usually plugged in, so I really don't want the extra bulk or weight).
So if I called Dell, do you think they could drop those two things out of the package, or are these an "all or nothing" type of deal?
And what do you think the odds are of getting something else thrown in instead. I need to get the Intel 3945 wireless for Linux, which is $29....still a lot less than the NVIDIA card + Battery that I don't want.

Replying to my own thread to update it.
I called last night and got routed to the Home sales queue somehow, and the rep there told me I would need a business name and a Federal Tax ID number to order anything from the Business Line
Then I sent an email instead, asking if it was possible to purchase the Smart Value Package, but leave out 2 of the upgrades. Here is the response I got:
Do you think Dell Customer Support would do this?
