Does it mean that it has already gone through kitting and all that? So hopefully it would be boxed soon?

Hopefully. You still have testing and then boxing before it actually ships.

From what I understand, it's when they get the parts together to make the computer. Afterwards, they start building it.

Kitting is the stage where they get all the parts needed to build the laptop. Its the stage before the build.

Yea if your in "build" for more then a day its most likely not being built. When it goes back to kitting it should fly from there as they have all your parts ready to go. So back to the real build, then test, box and shipped.

I think Dell automatically puts you in build stage after your payment method has been approved. I think they do this to fool you into thinking that they are working reaaally hard at getting your personalized laptop to you. Then once they really start working on your computer, they start with kitting and work their way through.

Ha ha, yeah. They give each guy that builds each laptop a folder with a picture of you and a letter you wrote to Dell, like those kids in the "Save the Children" commercials. And that guy takes all the care in the world while he builds your laptop, with that picture of you tacked up in his workstation, just thinking about the wonderful smile you're going to get on your face when you open up that box...

    That would be awesome. :D

Dell does try to put the "personal" in personal computer. Remember what their slogan is, "Yours is here."

Honestly, I highly doubt that dell techs spend 3 weeks looking at your computer thinking, "Where the hell is that red lid? Oh it is here now, but we are out of the processors. Oh wait, there are a few over there. But you know what? We don't have any graphic cards. We're screwed...wanna get a beer?"

Dude I've been in the production stage for over a week now. It took my order 7 days to process (WTF?).
I just can't wait to get the laptop though.
I really wanted it before school started....

Does complaining on the Live Chat support or on the phone about getting your laptop before school starts do anything?

Like will you get free shipping or some freebies?

I've tried complaining on Live Chat support numerous times, but they brush me off and say stuff is delayed (what stuff I ask them)....then they tell me to talk to the order modification dept if I want my order to come faster....I told them no, I want the laptop I ordered....no luck so far...I'm gonna try and tell them i need it for school (which is true)...maybe that will work, but I doubt it...

I have actually had it say "kitting" I somehow managed to hit the litttle window of time it was actually in kitting which is pretty amazing because it couldn't have been much more than half an hour.

that's so funny. when i saw that u had just called and it said testing and i look at ur thing when u posted and it's 1:45am my time, i'm like holy poop, maybe i have a chance...... nope. maybe everyone saw ur post, called up that number, and that's now the reason why the hotline is closed temporarily haha. and the online order status site sucks at helping, it says in production for kitting, build, and test doesn't it? so no help there....

do you call the order status THAT often?? I think testing (in theory) only takes a couple of hours, if that.

    :] Sorry,
It's just that I am waiting on a 1420 also. And you and me ordered it around the same date, but mine has been in "production" for about a week and a half now.

The 1420 I switched to on July 26 (after they said the 1505 I ordered on July 6 would never be built) has gone from build to kitting as of this morning, 8/14, a day after the last ship date I was given. So, at least something has changed.
