Do you mean by itself or with a tv tuner?

Look in the email you got or check the order status online... if it includes remote, it'll be in the list.

It's not and is also not something listed as an option when you're doing the build. You need to order it separately ($50) and is bluetooth

I guess it's just an option and not a default accessory like with 1330.

Here in Canada, when I ordered my Dell Travel Remote Control, IR it was free. But I had to add to my components for $0. The funny thing is that in my quote sheet under Misc/Drivers it also mentions something about Single TV tuner, USB. I really have no clue what that is all about. Just waiting for it to check it out. Btw I ordered a 1520.

In India.. we get it with the laptop... there is no option to choose it or something .. its just bundled in there.

hmmm, that's confusing and interesting :) How could they automatically bundle it in if it's bluetooth? Did you choose the bluetooth upgrade?

It took me a half hour to even get the Rep to realize it had a remote. Had to send him a pic of his own equipment!!

yeah i mean there is no option to choose the earphones, the bluetooth as well as the remote... its just there included in the price which hikes it up a bit.

Does anyone know if the remote sticks out a little on the 1720 like it does on the 1520.

I definitely see the option to upgrade to bluetooth, but nothing on the remote.

The remote stores in the express card slot so I don't think it sticks out at all.

the remote is not provided automatically as a base option, you have to ask dell for (it it is free) and they will include it in the express card slot and it does not stick out, but if you do not ask you do not get :) dunno why they dont include it as standard but thats dell!

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3808

"Both notebooks offer 802.11n wireless using Intel's new wireless chipset, both have Bluetooth offered and both have consumer level IR to work with the remote control. Dell does beat out HP by offering WWAN via Verizon in the 1520, it even offers the super fast Rev-A EVDO which has been a joy to use. For this extra option of WWAN Dell wins on the wireless front."

So, the remote works with IR not with Bluetooth.

    You're absolutely right poster.

My gosh!! How in the heck does Michael Dell expect to turn things around when their own reps don't have a clue about their products.

It took me half an hr to even get the guy to understand there was in fact a remote for the Inspirons and even after that he gave me bad info saying it was bluetooth and would be a $50 upgrade.

And the kicker is, I STILL can't get anyone who has a clue to tell me if I'm going to get one or not or at least have the ability to add it to the order if not already bundled. incredible

No, It's not included in the list. Hence the reason I'm spending all this time trying to get it worked out through Cust Service.

Andy1210, really, the easiest way is for you to download the 1720 manual which is already up on Dell's website, and read through it. AFAIK, there is no remote with your 1720 however, you may purchase one but it is a BT device, so yes, you need to have BT. AFAIK, there is no front facing Infrar Red on the laptop when I went to check it out. All this info should be clearly spelled out in the manual one way or another.

then why did Andrew in his review refer to the remote as IR and not BT?

the remote is powered by infared!
also you must ask dell or select it as an option or you will not get it in the card slot!
    nice and simple :)

Thanks, but to repeat, it's no where listed as something to select when doing the build.
