Anyone know if Dell is planning on making a 14inch laptop with an upgradable videocard (semi decent)

My brother had the e1405 and I like it alot, however the integrated video card is a big turnoff.

I know the e1405 was just released like 5 months ago... but I heard somewhere that Dell is releasing another 14inch laptop which should be superior to the e1405 (atleast the way my brothers is configured)

yeah, I wish I could have my e1705 power in e1405 package, alas I don't think it's easy to do or dell will do it any time soon

They actually had another 14" laptop (XPS M140 or the 640m) that also had integrated graphics...released that 12 months ago, and retired it when the 640m was released. So yeah, they've had crappy 14.1" notebooks since 11/1/2005...and I sadly bought one too. If they do release a 14" with a better video card, I'm almost certain that it will be an XPS notebook.

Most likely, it will have either a X1400 or 7400, but it could even be X1600 or 7600. I don't know...

Intergraded video is the only reason I got the e1505 instead of the E1405.

    upgradeable? probably not.

dedicated? maybe. the 14" latitude has an option for a dedicated card.

Dell is really missing a gap in their XPS product line between the M1210 and M1710. I really wish they will come out with a "M1410" of sorts with a high-res (WXGA+ 1440x900) 14.1" widescreen and decent dedicated graphics (Mobility Radeon X1400/GeForce Go 7400 or above), better if they can match the ASUS A8Js' spec with a GeForce Go 7700 or Mobility Radeon X1650.

I don't understand why they decided to not offer a dedicated graphics option in their 14" range since their last one (Inspiron 600m which uses a 14" standard aspect LCD) has a Mobility Radeon 9000, which STILL beats the Integrated Intel GMA950 they have in the E1405/640m.

The reason I went for the M1210 is because even their 15.4" E1505/6400 comes with the same level of graphics power as the GeForce Go 7400 I have in mine, and I'd take mobility and longer battery life over a larger screen size.

Of course, there's the ASUS A8Js in that nice powerful yet still portable 14" segment, but it wasn't even remotely on the shipping rader back at the end of August when I needed my new machine (and it still is VERY limited today and hard to come by near the end of October).
