When buying a machine from Dell do they ship OS CDs or can one get them to ship OS CDs?
If not how do you reinstall the OS on the machine if the hard drive dies or one chooses to replace it with a different hard drive?

They typically do. If they don't send it you can call them to request it to be sent. They will usually only send you one copy though. I requested for my Inspiron 9100 and received promptly after confirming addresses etc (I had changed addresses since ordering).

They ship both OS and Driver CDs/DVDs as well as CD's for all added software (Office/Works, Security Software, etc.

Don't know about today but when I got my dimension 3000, did not receive any OS cd, had to request it to be sent.

I purchased a dell desktop about 2 years ago and didnt get any, is it too late to request it?

they ussually put back up images on the hd and send discs

The OS disks they send are OEM reinstall disks and only work on the computer you purchased.
If you didn't/don't receive it, call Dell and they'll send it to you. -

when dell send you the OS cd is it full of all that ad-ware crap?

When you hear the term "clean install", it refers to using the reinstall disks to install the OS only and then installing only the programs that you wish to install.
