    Does Vostro 1700 with has grainy screen problem with 1440x900 screen?

    I am wondering if the dell vostro 1700 1440x900 has the grainy screen problem?

    You should be fine.. The resolution on a 17" with a 1440X900 has about the same about of pixels per square inch as a 15" with 1280X800. The 1400X900 has shown its ugly head on the 1420 and 1520 models. There is very little complaints on this forum with that res and size screen. I can't remember seeing any posts on it anyway. Even HP offers that res on their 17" dv9500 which is a good indication that display manufacturers do not have grainy issues with that res/size of panel.

    The resolution and size are not the determining factor on whether or not you will have a grainy screen. It is the manufacturer that makes your screen, which could be LG, AUO, etc. Dell is getting better at minimizing the grainy screen problem.

    Worst case - send it back for a replacement.
