i'm actually starting to warm up to it as well, and everyone else seems to get black or blue. since it's a gloss as opposed to a microsatin i wonder if white scratches as easy as an ipod?

From my experience, white looks extremely plasticy and cheap. Not something I would expect, nor accept from a premium laptop.

is that for all laptops or just the kind that Dell uses that looks bad? it's hard to tell from the picture.

oh ok.. white could look nice on the smaller XPS' but you might be right, i'd need to see it in person or in better user pics. i think the 17" XPS looks so ugly whatever colour it is. it just screams 'trying too hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11'. all the case is missing is fins or wings or a skull.

Well, white does get dirty. but to look dirty it would have to actually be grimmy. my black gets finger prints all over it if I walk by and look at it. maybe they should make a thrashed pattern. you know like they people who buy jeans already faded w/ holes

It's easier to clean dust off of the white than the microsatin colors.
It doesn't show fingerprints like the black.
I think the white with silver looks slick.
It's my favorite of the Dell colors.
I didn't think I was going to like the white until I saw it in person.
I ordered a white 1720 last year and a white M1330 this year.

that's a good idea and you can market the unique patterns each laptop would get and it'd be easy for Dell to do. they just need to sandpaper the finish before it ships and voila

I have white xps m1330 and I like it.

I might have picked another color, if not for the fact that the XPS lettering is too visible in another color.

    black was too dark.
    blue was too drab.
red was so not my thing
    green was not available.

that's another really really good reason to get white on an XPS. that lettering is totally ugly and obnoxious and i'm not interested in carrying around a giant Dell billboard either.

Well I have a 'Bone White' M1730 on the way as a replacement. I'm going to miss my black M1710. Hmmmm... not sure how I feel about white though. If I had my way, it would be Smoke Grey.

I was going to buy a white XPS M1530, but by the time i order they ran out of white =(

So i ordered black, yes it does show ALOT of finger print and it is hard to get the finger prints off but it does look pretty slick!

Hi, I like my white 1330 and think it very cool and sylish. It is glossy so any dirt, fingerprints, etc.. can be easily wiped off. The only issue is that it does scratch easily. I do think that unless you do not worry about these things that you should invest in the laptop protectors that are kicking around; they are some sort of clear, thin plastic material that you apply and it sticks on and you are thereafter protected from scratches from everyday use. I have not yet put mine one but it is custom fit for the 1330. My apolgies for not remembering the company right now. If you search for the word condom (not kidding, you will see why the word is in there if you read the thread), you will come up with a thread that deals with this and mentions the company that has the pre cuts for the 1330.

I got the Alpine White on the M1530 before I returned it due to screen issues. The glossy finish was really nice and the whole look of the computer was more Mac-like. I was hoping to order another one with the LED screen but Dell discontinued the white finish in April on both the 1530 and 1330. Guess they were having quality control issues or something.

No. Apple actually threatened to sue Dell if they did not remove the Alpine White color due to resemblances to Macbook Pro.

Inspirons arn't anywhere near Macbook killers in both design and options.

The options of the M1530 however, are very similar to the Macbook. Design may be slightly different profile... but making it white might draw too much attention.

The white option is still available in Canada. I don't know what other countries it is available in. Too bad if they were actually forced to change because of Apple but if that is the case, why not in Canada? I think they just ran out of the colour and decided to just drop it due to slow sales with it? Anyway, I hope it comes back again for everyone outside of Canada because it is a nice, classy option.

alpine white is great! you need to see it in person to like it. the pictures dell has on their site dont show the gloss, so it looks very cheap. i got it mainly because of the glossy finish.

one other plus is the dell logo on the lid. its not like a badge on other lids. its engraved into the lid with silver lettering. i know somebody with a matte black lid, and that logo stands out too much.

i've been staring at it a lot and i really like it now, it's a serious contender if/when i decide to buy. prices aren't cooperating.

is the white a base colour that won't chip?

My original 1530 was Alpine White, loved the looks of it. I would go with it again for the 1530 I am going to order, but unfortunately it is not available now.

black can be passed off as 'professional' or 'business-like'..... so i'll probably just get a black, not to mention the $25 premium for a color.... :(

Alpine white edges on the E1505 ruled and really gave it a very professional look. Plus fingerprints are very unnoticable due to its color as opposed to black.

Though for looks I'd choose black for professionalism and businesslike. Midnight blue is nice too, though it doesnt go as well as black, which blends with everything.
