Anyone here have a D830? There seems to be a lot of attention paid to the D630 around here, but not its big brother.

Should I assume that the two systems are basically the same, save the larger monitor(and so the reviews of the D630s would suffice)? If so, is there any difference in the quality of the monitor if the systems are mostly similiar?

    thanks in advance

You could also look at D820 reviews... The D830 is basically the exterior of the D820 with the specs of the D630.

In any case, here's what I believe are the differences. Compared to the D630, the D830:
    - is larger and about a pound heavier
    - is slightly thicker, according to the spec sheets, but not much.
    - has a 15.4" screen with different resolution options
    - has an additional graphics card option
    - has a few extra ports, such as expresscard, and maybe others
    - has two built-in speakers instead of just one
    - I'm not sure if the 9-cell battery sticks out on the D830... it does stick out in front on the D630.

I'm receiving my unit tomorrow evening. After a few days of playing around with it, I'll post a few thoughts. :)

Have an D830 with XP Pro, 2.0 Ghz, 2GB, 80g 7200, Intel graphics. Haven't used it yet except for internet access and minor Office work (for now). Screen leaves me wanting more brightness. Otherwise pretty solid machine, literally. Found my 3yr son using it as a "ramp" to reach a shelf today. Almost had a heart attack. Booted up fine after.

I was also a bit disappointed with the screen brightness. But then, coming from the Presario X1000, it's not too bad. I just wish we had an option for 250 nits or so.

I got the WUXGA, 1920 x 1200. The brightness level, according to the brochures, is 200 nits.

I have the WSXGA. Font size isnt an issue so far (havent worked over couple hours at a time on laptop) My eyes are accustomed to my dual 17in Viewsonic VG800b screens at work (which are much brighter)

Whoever has their machine, what do you think of the tightness of the screen? Open and close is solid and smooth but I was expecting it to be tighter. Do the screws ever loosen?

Does anyone know if the 256mb Quadro Nvidia 140m is 256 dedicated or is it 128 turbo cached?
