I've got a new Latitude D530 and have been reading some of these threads about the grainy screen on Samsungs on other models, mainly XPS series.

I saw the compare screenshot/pix's of LG/SEC that gave me a better understanding of what folks meant by grainy, and I'm not seeing anything that bad on mine...but then again, my eyes aren't that good anymore and I'm used to a 5 yr old 1024x768 C610 screen, so getting used to the 1400x1050 resolution may be part of it.

The new systems LCD is brighter than my old one and on a panel that has a lot of white, such as Control Panel, it seems clear enough but the text doesn't seem quite as sharp as I was hoping, however, I just tried changing the font size on Display>Appearance to Large Fonts, and that made it more readable, as before the text seemed to be a proportional font and the "lli" in Intellisonic was really cramped together as example, and now the font seems to be more fixed font, which helps a lot.
But now I seem unable to find the right combination of settings to get it back to the original font settings, which may not be an issue, other than wondering exactly what setting it was that I changed it.

Anyway, I'd not found any hits for my SEC4650 LCD so wanted to ask if others had found any issues with this part that I can't see!

If you can't see it, then why the hell does it matter?

    I can't ******* understand you people.

Use a little common sense, it might help.

If I buy a product that is inferior, regardless of how it affects me, I have a problem with it.

If the above poster decides to sell his laptop in 2 years and someone else won't give him fair value because of a grainy screen, then guess what? It matters. It has nothing to do if the original owner can tell - all that matters is people not getting the quality they paid for. All of the options - returning the laptop, using support to get a better screen, whatever - they are valid choices.

The thing that makes the least sense to me are people like you who act shocked like you are.

This grainy screen thing has gone way too far. Anyone with a Dell that visits these forums will start to wonder if they have a grainy screen. It's completely the placebo effect at work here.

If you like it, keep it. If you don't like it, return it.

I have nothing wrong with that, but flooding the forums with "is my screen grainy", that's BS.

Maybe you should get out more or take a break from the forums. If a lot of people are complaining, guess what? Let your common sense go crazy here. There might be a problem. Or maybe everyone is just making it up.

I bought my Nissan Titan a few years back and the geniuses at the dealership who installed the pin-striping stickers (which I never asked for nor wanted) thought it would be a good idea to use some sort of razor to slice the ends of the tape to remove the backing. It cut little slices in my paint - but it was hardly noticeable. Some people would have complained and gotten it fixed, I figured "ahh what the hell, it is hardly noticeable and I don't care. no biggie." Three years later, guess what? The clear-coat is peeling and it look like $%*&%@ crap. I have no recourse now since I did not address the situation at the time. I'm paying for the fix out of my own pocket and I learned my lesson.

If people complaining about an inferior product is too much for you, you have a choice to make JUST LIKE the people who are complaining about their screens. You can read it and ignore it, you can ***** wine and moan and act like a child, or you can go somewhere else where it will not bother you. I am probably missing some choices - come up with your own. I haven't ordered my XPS yet but when I do, if my screen is not what it should be, I will complain. I might not do it here but I will get it fixed or I will return it - just like I should have done with my truck.

Well, the reason that I even posted about this was that I'd not found any other posts about this specific item...and from the posts that I'd seen, it appears that this grainy issue only applies to Samsung screens, so when I see a part that appears to be related to Samsung, I'm naturally wondering, ok? The way you wrote it implies that anyone with a Dell will wonder, but I feel I'm in a much smaller subgroup of those who are concerned based on what specific details that match, such as brand.

And it wasn't until I saw one closeup via a post here that showed (somewhat) the grainy problem that I started to understand it.

Now, as a new user and a new member here, I was very surprised by the number of seemingly redundant threads about this topic, and wondered why there are SO many...thus I had tried to find a thread that I could just add to but given that my setup is similar but not the same, I started this one..

Am I happy with my screen? Well, yes, but if there is a problem that I don't know of that affects me, I need to find that fact out quickly.

Yes, that's the closeup that I'd referred to in my last post....I'd found it but didn't recall where it was...and I certainly am not seeing anything like that on my system...but given that my LCD appeared to be made by Samsung, I still wasn't sure if all their products were affected or just certain item nbrs....
