If you OC the cpu/gpu will the computer record temps and OC speed and such?

CUz I got complete care 3 YR Accidental and if my lappie messes up then it can get replaced...but if they know that I OC then that's a problem...

What about this...if it does record it and such then what about having swappable hard drives? Becuase if it recorded it, it would be on the HD and if I have a HD I swap in when sending for repair (same HD that came with the lappie) then all should be well..

It's not collected on your HDD. It's all collected on an NSA server.

all it take is a little bit of flash memory to record voltage and speed... Which every modern computer has...

yeah but i'm pretty sure this setup would be great.
Could load whatever confidential stuff you don't feel like sharing with somebody else on your main drive - then send the stock drive in when unit is repaired.

Why have two drives? LOL...Dell sent me the $100 concession fee and I plan to get the 320 gb drive which only costs 50 bucks extra! great IMOP. Definately wanted extra space and ability to partition with dual OS.

If you don't want it to break, don't take the risk of overclocking...

Do you need to overclock? Is your current config so slow that it frustrates you (more than an unstable machine would)?

I'm all for overclocking, but only if there's a specific requirement. General usage on computers 2GHz or more is bound by HD speed, not CPU speed. Games are bound by GPU speed rather than CPU speed (generally speaking).

Unless you're doing a lot of video conversion work or audio encoding, I can't think of any great benefit of cranking e.g a 2.8GHz CPU up to 3.4GHz. Sure, you do get a little increase in FPS in games, but the risk does not seem to outweigh the reward. A recent post in the M1730 Lounge thread showed someone getting a 2fps increase with such an overclock.

Knowing how much a 1 degree rise in temperate can affect the longevity of a CPU (and surrounding components), it's usually the wiser course of action to keep things running as cool as possible, rather than as fast as possible.

I don't take the chance as the risk/reward is pretty scary if you are unaware of what to do properly with respect to cooling etc...I just bite the bullet and by fast smokin rig and try to future proof the crap outta it so I get at least 6 mos outta it..LOL!!!

    1. There is a noticeable difference when I OC in UT3. BIG noticeable difference.

    2. I'm not talking about an insane overclock. Just a mild one to give a noticeable increase in gameplay.

    3. I have complete care. I actually paid for the possibility that my laptop might break - for 3 years.
