So I was told that I can send this AUO screen back for a replacement. I am wondering if you all have this... The screen on white background appears not very solid, there is like pixilization or a texture pattern that is slight and maybe noticable when close to the screen like about a foot from it. The pixilization is small and like the colors are not all solid white, but shades of white it seems or on gray it seems like slight shades of gray pixilization. It look ok when in colors, but sometimes in some colors it is also noticable like say light blue maybe. Is this what you guys mean by "grainy"? Does SEC or LG have this issue?
Which is better AUO, SEC or LG wxga+ screens for the Inspiron 1420?
-
-
lg philips is the best i heard
-
Yep. LG seems to have the highest satisfaction from posts on this forum. Better vertical viewing angles than the other two and no graininess.
If i'm not mistaken, AUO has the worst rep for the Inspiron line atm. -
Is my screen one that is "grainy"? It appears to be softly textured with faint and small pixilization in terms of shades of different colors, like on a white background, I can see shades of different whites... Also if I move the white background page in Internet Explorer around, the texture appearance seems to stay in the same spot while the background is moved around... Is this a "grainy" problem?
The textured pixilization is not that bad, but I can notice it on white or some other colors such as light blue if I am looking closely at it maybe over a foot away... -
Are the Vostro 1400s sometimes built with the LG panels as well? I realize they are supposedly the same as the 1420s, but I want to make sure. Mine is boxing right now and when I get it I want to verify that I have a good screen.
-
If yours Vostro 1400 is boxing right now, its WXGA+ is likely Samsung. I received mine yesterday and a couple other people reported the same thing. I like it so far.
-
How can I tell who made my screen?
-
Control Panel>Device manager>Monitor>Details>Hardware Ids.
-
I want people to know that I have a SEC screen and it also looks beautiful.
-
I also have an SEC (samsung) screen, and mine is great too.
-
It looks like I have an LPLF300. BTW its beautiful, no grayiness and minimum light bleed (barley any).
-
I have an AUO. And after checking the screens of other people on my dorm floor, the verdict is clear: My screen is BEAUTIFUL. Maybe some AUO screens out there are faulty, but mine is not.
-
i just recieved the replacement 1500 and it is a auo screen... not a hint of grain.. BUT the whites suck, the only complaint i have about it is the whites are very yellowed....other than that it looks awesome..i was hoping for a lg or samsung but im not a very lucky person....
-
Yeah, my replacement was an AUO too... and that was why I returned both systems back for refund. I just can't understand why Dell would bother sending AUO displays for replacements. Do they really want to take the chance that they would have to put up two systems to the refurbished department for a single customer? I am sure that they are aware of the AUO issues. On the extreme grainy AUO's the white background will also have wet vasoline like smear on the display. On these displays, the grain also is noticeable on dark textured backgrounds. I so wish my replacement had the SEC display of the first. Now I am in waiting again on new HP dv6500t. I think it will be worth it to gain the HDMI output.
Again, I don't see any of these grainy threads on the HP forum. Dell really needs to get a handle on this. Or I guess they just don't feel Inspiron systems are at the price point for them to bother. It would be nice, at the very least if Dell could use a SEC panel if the customer requested it.. Thats what I did and they said no problem.. yeah right. -
how were the white color wise on yours?? thanks i see no issues with the "vasoline" or any sparkle at all on mine just dont know if i can live with the horrid whites on this one
-
I don't remember the whites being yellowed.. but there was allot of greyish tones to it along with the sparkle/vasoline/wet look. If your whites are "horrid" as you say, I would not tolerate it. Whites are very important.. it is the background on many web pages.. on all word/excel/powerpoint/windows explorer/ control panel/ etc. You don't want horrid whites. If enough people send back their bad AUO systems Dell will have to make a decision as to whether its financially worth keeping that vendor.

I have a SEC screen and it is wonderful...
-
I have tha AUO WXGA 1280x800 with no issues.
One a pure black screen (startup) there is a slight light bleed on the bottom, but if you change your view it moves, so it's a viewing angle. -
I have a lpldf00 (lg phillips screen). it's amazing.
-
I just checked the screen on my vostro 1500 and its a CPT141F. lol what company is that?
-
Excellent. I really hope this is the case. Thanks so much for the informative and reassuring response. I will be sure to let everyone know my screen manufacturer once I receive my laptop.
By the way, it shipped today, although there is no tracking number assigned yet. Does it generally take 3-5 days, or is it sometimes quicker than that? -
lol once again i say if you think its a samsung and the code is sec... its NOT A SAMSUNG THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED FROM DELL... its a seiko epson screen
-
am i the only one that has a realy grainy sec screen?
My screen looks like an oil tanker just spilt on it -
My SEC was also grainy.
-
As a whole, I think the SEC screens are favored on these forums. But for some reason, there seems to be issues with wxga+ panels as a whole. As others have pointed out to me on these forums, its not just dell having issues with this resolution. Apparently, the 14 inch panels have been experiencing grainy issues with other manufacturers too. For some reason, display builders are having a time of it making non grainy wxga + panels. This may very well be why HP and Sony decided not to offer that resolution on their CR 14" notebook and HP does not offer this on the dv2500t. But it also appears that the wxga + affects 15" panels as well.
I am curious, if your screen really looks like an oil tanker split on it.. do you plan on returning or just dealing with it? -
i have an AUO display and i am considering to ask for a better display. Mine is fine but when it comes to watching movies, especially parts of lighter colors (ex. human face) , there is a slight color distortion ( grainy). I am kinda paranoid after reading the forum stuff so i cant really tell if my AUO is good or is there is any problem with it.
-
What resolution do you have? Also, is it a 14" or 15". If you have a 14" with the wxga+ and just a little bit of graininess you may not do any better. Sounds like your not sure which means it may not be that big an issue and you might get something worse if you switch the panel. The AUO I on the 1420 I had was very bad.. no question about it.. I saw it on the desktop, booting up, whatever... it was bad and I did not have to second guess it. Also on the 14" panels the SEC's are generally better about the grain, but the viewing angles are bad.. and they are darker then the AUO.. So you might have one of the better AUO screens.. getting an SEC could be worse.
Let us know you res and screen size to further help out. -
Mine says LPL0000, what brand is this?
-
LG Philips
-
finally someone answers me, thx! mine is 15 inch wxga+ ( 1440 ), i have read other threads with pics comparing an LG to an AUO, the AUo is smeared terribly with "oil" in that pic. my lcd has a minor amount of grainy-ness. Is a "good" screen grain free + decent viewing angle ? If a good screen still does have a little bit of grainy-ness, i would probably consider to keep mine.
i have read that SEC have terrible viewing angles so i am not sure as well. I live in malaysia btw, if this helps. -
I had the samsung and it had shocking light bleed, got it replaced with an LG and its no better. Blacks are just not black. It looks as though someone has shone a torch on the black background. Viewing angle is much better than the samsung but my 3yr old toshiba leaves this dell POS for dead.
Are the non true life screens any better? If so I might ring dell and plead for a non true life. -
I have an lg matte screen and there is a fair amount of light bleed on it as well. Not sure if its normal or not but its a lot more than my desktop lcd's which are samsung and viewsonic. Its less than some pictures of the 2005FWP Ive seen though and its not going to cause me to lose sleep since I only notice it when I look/test for it (dont game or watch movies on the laptop though).
If I had to guess, Id say that matte or glossy doesnt make any difference to bleed but Id just be guessing since I dont have both side by side.
Does this AUO screen have problems?
