CANADA:
First off, i know a lot of people on here have been waiting a VERY long time for their Dell laptops. After reading a lot of threads about the delays, it seemed a lot of it was caused from the colors of the lids (or maybe I didnt read enough? haha). Anyway, I choose Jet black on my 1520 so I could avoid the "color delays" since it said white & black werent delayed.
I ordered on August 27. It said the production date was also the 27th.
What exactly does the "production date" mean, because now it's September 3rd but with the same ship date of September 30th.
My configuration was a 1520, 2.0ghz 4mb 800mhz. bluetooth, webcam, 256mb video, 2gb ram, 1440x900 LCD. Wireless N and upgraded sound.
So my question is, does that shipment date make sense for ordering a jet black on the 27th? And what does "production date" mean? Since it's changed now 3 different times in just the week I ordered![]()
PS - Yes I know what production date means in english, but could someone translate it in dell terms? lol , no sarcasm please![]()

My guess is your going to be waiting a LONG time (like I am) due the the CPU (as is with me) and due to the N wireless (why i cancelled my first order...
-
we are hearing the T7300 CPU may be delaying the orders
-
I ordered on August 28th, and my ESD is showing as September 27th, 2007.
I selected the T5250 CPU (1.5GHz) and Intel Wireless a/b/g (not N)
I have a feeling (high hope!) that they're giving us really pushed back ESD to cope with overwhelming demand... and they'll ship sooner =D -
I ordered an Inspiron 1520 with the N wireless on 8/6 and it looks like it'll be shipping on 9/5 like Dell says. It's currently in boxing. I was all worried when I heard about the delays with the wireless N, but I guess it didn't affect me.

Stages as requested:
Pre-production - order placed funds not approved
Production - Funds approved to delivery prep
delivery prep - boxed placed in appropriate shipping area
shipped - on its way
Production covers everything from when your credit card is approved to its waiting period, build period, os imaging, software and final testing period.
You may be in production for weeks before production starts. -
Thats is almost the same dates and specs for my 1520. I got it in green, no wireless n card, I went with the g. See my sig below:

After reading some the post, now I'm thinking mine doesn't make sense.
I've ordered on August 21 and the rep told me on the phone that it will take about 20 business days which would place my estimated delivery date to be September 18-19. On the e-mail I have received and on the dell status screen, my estimated delivery date is Oct 1. When I inquired about the difference in date, the rep told me that they like to give themselves a little bit of room by giving extra week which is why the delivery date will be in Oct but assured me that I should be getting my laptop by September 18-19.
Now, what should I believe and why is mine taking longer than other people in this post?

Jasira...rules to believe in....
1. Never trust what a CSR tells you about a date. They dont know.
2. Your EDD is just that, but is subject to lead times and means nothing.
3. You will never know your exact date of delivery until you have it in your hot little hands. -
okay so does this mean that Dell can do anything they want to do and I can't do anything?
I know a lot of people talked about cancelling but
1. When is the last date before you can cancel?
2. If I do cancel, which brand can I buy that will give me something close to what I got from Dell?
3. is Dell only one having problem with the delivery or is this what I can expect from all other companies? -
NO...all the manufacturers are having similar problems. The difference is companies like Sony and HP preconfigure several systems and then make the minor modifications after the fact so they arent short parts already in systems.
I wouldnt panic. I know of two others with the same system today that are surprised because they are coming earlier than expected... -
Does this shipment date make sense?
