So my order was delayed to 8/28. Currently it is still "in production, in the build stage." Now the more I cruise around the forum, the more people I find who also have their date changed to 8/28.

I think that Dell must have realized that the orders are behind and just started throwing that number at everyone. That gives them 4 weeks to complete the delayed order, and if they ship out before the 28th, it makes them look better.

Does that sound right?! The more people who get delayed the more i see 8/28 as a date.

    88GMCTruck,
I'll say it before someone else...don't be a crybaby. j/k
Seriously, I think Dell is trying to weed out the people who really want their computers and do not mind be delayed for a month and half. By doing this, their demand goes down and the laptops get shipped out sooner.

Yet, I am still trying to figure out why people who ordered after me still got their laptops while mine was in production. It is like a bad dream.

There are just too many orders, if you think about it the released the new inspiron, vostro and XPS1330 all around the same time. I'm thinking that was a bad move.....on top of back to school?

They should have released them farther apart and started well before back to school. Maybe they should have stockpiled parts....

Not necessarilly. Any publicity is good publicity. On behalf of the customers it was a bad move.

I think they know that there is a back to school push at the end of summer. They could have prevented it by stockpiling or releasing these sooner.

I'm not saying it's bad publicity, they are making alot of money and placing lots of orders. These are all popular machines, but I think the release of them wasn't properly planned for. Maybe they will learn in the future.

It is the customer's fault they are backordred (because we order them) but at the same time Dell could have prepared....

Getting a laptop has been an adventure for me. First I order on the 7th. Then I modify my order on the 8th. Then I cancel that order and order again with coupons. Then I wait 24 days (and counting) in the build stage.
