Okay, I got my laptop last week (with xp)and I knew I was going to format it to clean off the bloatware if I decided to keep it.
So I believe I finally have decided to keep it and was wondering. Does the vista upgrade erase ALL traces of the dell bloatware?
Right now, I'm contemplating whether I should:
1) Just upgrade to vista (if it eliminates bloatware)
or
2) Reinstall windows XP, then upgrade to vista
The first one is obviously less hassle but Im not sure if it'll clean out all the junk.
Thanks.
PS: I still haven't ordered my vista upgrade disc since I only just decided to keep my laptop. (Since's its not exactly free, gotta pay like $24 for S & H WTF (Do americans have to pay 24$ too?)) Also comtemplating whether to upgrade yet for driver issues.

if you are refering to the windows vista upgrade cd shipping and handling i only had to pay $10.83.

The point of an upgrade is to keep your settings, installed software and other files, so don't expect unwanted software to be deleted. I think it is typically about $9.95 in the US to get the upgrade shipped.

hey man i got mine this week too and it had so much crap on it lol
-
Wow, like a 13$ difference, a supermodel better deliver it.

I heard you can do a clean install of vista with the upgrade disc by first installing vista without entering the product key so you end up installing the trial version. Then once in vista, you install again with the upgrade key.
Does this work?
If it does, wouldn't this eliminate all the bloatware and is essentially a clean format? -
First thing I did when I got my Dell E1505 was run the freeware "decrapifier" to get most of the bloatware off it.

Vista can be clean installed even with the upgrade disc. As noted earlier, you in effect install it twice, once without entering the product key and the second time with the key entered.

No, it adds one more piece of bloatware, it's a random dialog box creator called Vista..

Schleeb, please don't do the anti MS FUD in a thread where someone is asking for help

Let me know if I am too OT, I don't want to thread jack! -
I am waiting for my e1705. Supposedly it will come with the OEM OS disk.
We'll see if it actually appears. -
Thanks Joelist.... Let me know what you discover!
-
Hey Joelist, did you get your e1705 in?
Mine came with a Reinstallation DVD, Windows Vista, Home Premium (32bit?) and a Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD for Windows Vista.
Is there a guide for a clean installation using these discs? -
I got a Vista Ultimate full install disc. It worked like a charm.
Your post makes it sound like you got a home Premium reinstall disc. Is that correct? -
Does vista upgrade eliminate dell bloatware?
