Just got home and had the chance to look at my Desktop. There is no line item that shows up for eSATA. It probably just acts as if the device is plugged into one of the internal SATA ports is my guess...
The port on my desktop definitely works as I use it quite often...
-
That is correct - after all the only difference between SATA and eSATA is the connector. -
So what you are saying that with eSATA device connected, no additional devices are populated under device manager? That doesn't sound correct but w/o working eSATA port just can't confirm...
-
-
So it would also show up under IMSC as just another drive then...gotcha -
I don't rem. this being mentioned in the thread so hopefully I'm not double posting...
I just got my Studio 1537 today with BIOS A07 Pre-Installed (only A05 is listed on Dell's site). I don't know if it was always supported or if it is the result of this BIOS, but the eSATA port on my Studio 1537 is active as I tested and confirmed it working this morning. -
Got an Studio 1537 with BIOS A05. ESATA working!
@frazell: Happy to find someone with BIOS A07.
I Have Latenzy Problems (so I can't use it for Audio-Production e.g.)
I hope to fix it with the new BIOS but it's not downloadable yet. Maybe you can check if u got the same Problems:
Use DPC-Checker (freeware): http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
It shows me red spikes (4000µs) every 4 seconds and i can't fix it. -
I have the A07 firmware ... I tried the DPC-Checker and it's getting the 4000 spikes every few seconds
-
So this Laptop is Dead for me.
Unbelievable that my 4 year old Siemens Laptop works good for Audio Production and this Brand new Dell Studio is unuseable for such things. -
I have a new Studio 1537 with the eSata port that works as both a USB and Sata connection.
I am looking at adding a USB docking station for my keyboard, mouse and display for use at home.
Does anyone know if the eSata port will provide a faster link to display HD video vs. the USB link? Thanks.
Here is the link for the USB dock... http://accessories.dell.com/sna/Pop...us&l=en&cs=19&sku=A1288914&price=140#Overview -
I have the port on my A07 (IIRC) 1537. Haven't got anything to test it with, but it's there and the manual notes it too.

This is eSata-USB combo port.
eSata need power and USB can provide power. My current eSata hdd case (Thermaltake Max4) has power from USB charger (apple/other brand) via usb-cable. I don't like bulky power adapter came with Max4.
This combo port is to give eSata power from USB with a single cable.
Did you try using Power Over eSata cable? => link
Try this cable and tell me if its worked.. cause i want to buy XPS Studio 13 (if this combo port worked) or Macbook
Sorry for my bad English -

Has anyone managed to get the eSATA port functioning on the Studio 1535? I have BIOS version A06. This is relevant to my interests.
-
Holy crap, I just noticed the eSATA port on my S15 after more than a year of ownership.
It doesn't work at all? -
I honestly don't remember asking this question or why I did it. I may very well have been drunk at the time.
Not that it's relevant anymore anyway; I got rid of that 1535 system a long time ago. -
The "Quick Reference Guide" here:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/1535/en/index.htm
clearly states that the 1535 does not have eSATA. It has the same USB/eSATA port as other models but only supports USB.
"* Studio 1535 systems have an additional USB connector instead of an eSATA connector."
"NOTE: The eSATA connector is available only in Studio 1536."
"one four pin eSATA/USB combo connector
(available only on Studio 1536)"
Sad, I just got a eSATA/USB enclosure -
That's fine, I traded the failed Studio 15 for an IBM T60 (which I gave away as a gift) and then built a desktop for $800.
Does your Studi 15 have and eSATA port?
