I just received the Inspiron 1520 (just want to say it's an excellent laptop, no complaints whatsoever).
Now, I don't know if this problem is caused by Vista Home Basic or the Dell 1520 has a problem itself, but I can't get my AIM 5.9 working 100% of the time. Here's what I mean.
If I turn on my laptop and choose to sign on immediately, I can get the AIM program started. But, if I were to wait 2+ minutes, AIM would not start at all, even though the Task Manager says it's up and running.
What can I do to fix this?

I'm having the same problem on my m1330 with Vista Home Premium. AIM is setup to start automatically when windows does, and 90% of the time it does. However, if the computer goes into sleep mode or if i exit out of the program, AIM fails to reopen when I click on the shortcut or exe. I check my processes and it still says its running, but its not on the task bar or on the applications tab in the task manager. I'm using an older version of AIM as well (5.5). I wonder if its just a Vista compatibility issues.

Most likely a compatibility problem, have you tried running it in XP compatibility mode?

You musst downloaded newest aim... or even better download aim lite http://x.aim.com/laim/ its from AOL

Well, I don't enjoy the format the new AIM is in, and AIM Lite looks too foreign to me.

Try 5.5?
Maybe those will work.
Or you could try Gaim 2.0 Beta 6 (Pidgin IM can't drag groups)
Don't know if it's a Vista problem or Dell 1520 problem (AIM related)
